Today we’d like to introduce you to Haylee Wood
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Dj-ing in 2020 for fun because raves were taken away by Covid. I picked it up fast and became really passionate about it. When things went back to normal from Covid, I went seeking gigs at clubs where I lived at the time, ORLANDO FLORIDA. I soon hopped on a lot of gigs in that town and made my way around for about 2 years. I moved back home to MIAMI FLORIDA and continued my DJ career out there. I started Dj-ing on TIKTOK for fun and extra money and eventually someone reached out to me through there and became my manager. I was skeptical at first because I didn’t understand what it is to have a manager really, but I’m happy I went with them. After about a year in Miami I decided to move to LA to be closer to Insomniac HQ and their team. Have been loving LA since, I think I made a good decision
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly a lot of people were really mean to me in the very beginning. Back in Orlando I started getting a lot of hate, and there was a lot of drama with my name on it. So much so, that I had my name kicked off a few line ups in that town. I shortly figured it was jealousy from people and what pushed me to move back home to Miami. The worst part about this whole industry is the waiting game, waiting for songs to be signed, waiting for shows to get booked. Especially as an anxious person it messes with me. One day I have nothing lined up but then the next day I have three things lined up. I feel like you have to have a lot of faith that something will just come up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Something that quickly got my foot in the door here is the fact that I write music and produce my own vocals. I have made a lot of connections and friendships off of another artist asking me to add my vocals on to their track. My voice is very different, it’s raspy and low in tone- it sets me apart from other vocalists. I take pride in the fact that all my released songs are all my own vocals
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I definitely took a big risk moving out to LA because I wasn’t exactly sure how it would pan out. I saved money, shipped my car and flew out here with a place to stay and not knowing many people out here. High risk high reward I really believe in that
