Hi Jocelyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Jocelyn Cruz better known as Jglow im a celebrity makeup artist brow artist & spraytan artist located in Santa Ana Orange County, California. I am a single mom of two beautiful girls Azariah Milani (8) Anayah Marina (7). Im the oldest of 3 girls & was raised my a single mom who I owe it all to; Martha Bolaños. I was drawn to the beauty industry at a very young age, 16, During junior high and high school I was the friend that did her own make up for our special events. Which then led to my sisters friends asking me to do their make up for their special events such as prom, homecoming etc. at first it was a hobby and without knowing it I realized I could make a career out of it when they started to ask what my fees were. During my junior year of high school I was able to finish esthetician school through our ROP program and completed all 600 hours that the course required. After finishing high school I went into cosmetology where I then transferred my 600 hours of esthetics and later obtained my license from the cosmetology state board of California. After completing my education and obtaining my license that’s when my freelance career began professionally. Over the course of my freelancing work I worked and trained with high-end brands such as MAC & KKW Beauty. In 2017 was when I did makeup on my first celebrity client being Mariahlynn then in 2018 Paula Deanda. I became a mother in 2016 and although I still tried to manage my career at the same time it became a real challenge when I then became a mother of 2 baby girls in 2017. I took a bit of a break & i wasnt until 2019 when I decided to remove myself and my kids from the toxic marriage that I was in that the blessings started to flow. In 2019 is when I met Mariah Angeliq toured with her & is when my career took off all while being a single mom. I also do Male grooming & have male groomed Jesus Ortiz Paz, lead singer of Fuerza Regida, Jaydee lead singer of Herencia de Patrones& Brandon Leigh to name a few. I’ve also done makeup for influencers such as Jailyne Ojeda, Brittnay & Brianna Murillo, better known as the Murillo Twins & more. In 2021 I began to work glamming artists from the music label Rancho Humilde and executives of the label. In 2023 I worked on my very first film doing make up and hair for Cosas de la Clika. In the last few years, I have acquired a wide range of clientele local to both Orange County and Los Angeles for a variety of occasions such as red carpets, weddings, music videos, film, award shows, magazines and more. I specialize in “snatchural” glamour, but remain versatile and continue to pave my way in various parts of this growing industry. When booking with me, you can anticipate a flawless makeup application. I center the focus of my craft around my client’s face shape and bone structure, allowing me to customize a tailored look to best suit you. Time and time again. Throughout the years I have added services such as spray tanning lash lifts brow services such as tinting waxing lamination and threading.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road it took alot of sacrifices such as time away from my daughters, in my journey in particular it was challenging trying to persue my goals and dreams while trying to heal years of trauma and abuse & yet still trying to be a present & providing single mother. Alot of the challenges was also trying to find the means to invest in my kit provide for my daughters needs and booking so i could continue to work towards my dream. Alot of tears the fear of failure sometimes took the best of me but I always found the strength in my kids to continue to persevere.

In all services it requires my client to start in a very vulnerable position a completely nude state; their true authentic selves. I am known as Jglow for being the resilient woman that has fallen 8 times & has gotten up 9 times. Im the most proud of the community of women and men that have seen my growth seen my journey and get inspired and feel hope when they find themselves in a similar situation that I was once in. What sets me apart from others is my personality authenticity & my story that many resonate with. Not only do i make my clients glow from the surface but I truly believe to be a light in alot of my clients lives & they find hope and inspiration.
