Today we’d like to introduce you to Gui Agustini
Hi Gui, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My first dream was to be a professional tennis player. Spent my teen years dedicating my life to it and traveling playing tournaments. I ended in Caracas, Venezuela where I met tennis coach Harold Castillo who changed my life. Almost 2 years later, I started modeling which led me to doing my first audition for a subway commercial. I was horrible and felt so embarrassed that I got into an acting class led by Matilda Corral which scared me but fascinated me at the same time. And I loved it. When I got to Lander University in Greenwood, SC with a tennis scholarship, I minored in theatre and was cast as the lead Hal in Picnic, my first play ever. A year later I moved to Miami, stopped tennis and fully dedicated myself to acting. A year after that I started my professional acting career doing small parts in novelas, in lots of commercials, then had my first appearance on an American show in A&E The Glades, while also having bigger parts for Nickelodeon Spanish TV shows. The following year I moved to NYC to attend a 2 year acting conservatory. Trained and trained and trained. Did several commercials, started creating and directing a lot of my own short films, and acted in my first Brazilian feature film. But it wasn’t until after the pandemic, when my life drastically changed and I moved to LA, that my career truly took off: I got cast as Theo James acting double in the HBO The Time Traveler’s Wife, acted in an attempt HBO brazilian movie, and got cast to voice Sunspot in the highly acclaimed animated series X-Men ’97 which has been also changing my life and career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh no. I don’t think it is or will ever be for anyone. Especially in the arts. The countless amounts of NOs. The challenges of being an immigrant. Learning a new language. Mastering a new accent. It’s a lot of work and time and energy and effort and dedication. One has to be absolutely love it and want it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an actor, voice actor, and filmmaker and also co-founder of the online business, impAKTo. I’m extremely proud to have created my short films ‘Roses are Blind’ which has won over 100 awards in the festival circuit, ‘To The End’ which is now in the festival circuit and ‘West Texas Home’ which will enter the festival circuit next year; also I’m very proud and honored and grateful to have been cast to voice Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot in X-men ’97 and thus represent my home country Brazil and Latin America; and last but not least to have launched impAKTostore.com which has the mission of creating a positive impAKT in people’s lives by the apparel we sell and the donations we thus make to The Midnight Mission, an incredible organization that helps the homeless in Los Angeles.
I think my main strengths are my persistence, dedication, and optimism.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Wow, I have had so many people that were extremely crucial for me being where I am today, and having become who I am. I won’t name them all, but first and foremost my parents, then my former tennis coach Harold Castillo, my first acting advocate cheerleader Adolfo Cubas, all of my acting teachers but in special Anthony Meindl, my best friends, my therapist, my agents and managers, and many public figures as Dan Millman, Gary V, Jim Rohn, Dr Joe Dispenza and others. They have helped me grow and improve as a man and as an actor, and/or heal/overcome emotional challenges and traumas, and/or been crucial in helping me book the roles that have changed my career and life.
