Today we’d like to introduce you to Marina Sarkis
Hi Marina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a 26-year-old Egyptian-American who moved to the U.S. 12 years ago. Currently, I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee with a deep passion for crafting. While I have always enjoyed creating custom gifts, I initially kept this passion to myself, experimenting with personalized presents for family and close friends. They often recognized the special touch I brought to my creations.
It wasn’t until I got married that I truly embraced my craft. My husband, who has a background in business, encouraged me to invest in a Cricut and he actually bought it for me as a gift to help me take that first step and turn my hobby into a business. Though I was initially hesitant, the overwhelming support from my friends and family gave me the confidence to take the plunge.
With my parents’, siblings and husband’s encouragement, I launched an Instagram page to showcase my work. The positive response was incredible, and soon after, I expanded into the wedding industry, designing custom signage and decor for weddings, engagements, bridal showers, birthdays, baby showers, quinceañeras, and more.
Today, SarkisCrafts has become my greatest passion and one of my proudest accomplishments to date.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, some people were not supportive and did not believe in me nor follow me on Instagram and that got to me sometimes. But I was quickly reminded by my husband and sister, that it doesn’t matter and redirected my focus on the many people that support me and believe in me. That helped me so much. I don’t focus on the negativity but rather the many blessings God has granted me with this small business of mine.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Marriage and family Therapist Trainee at the Riverside County of Education. I am getting my Master’s in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I graduate in April of 2025. What I’m most proud of is turning a passion into a thriving business. SarkisCrafts is more than just a business to me—it’s a reflection of my creativity, culture, and personal growth. The journey from hesitating to share my craft to becoming a trusted designer in the wedding industry is something I hold dear.
What sets me apart from others is my personal approach and attention to detail. Each piece I create is not just another product; it’s a personalized experience tailored to the unique vision of each client. I take the time to understand my clients’ needs and make sure every item reflects the love and care I put into it.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love watching TikTok’s of other creatives and get inspiration from them.
