Check Out Giacomo Martinelli’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giacomo Martinelli

Giacomo , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is totally tied to Los Angeles and the South Bay. Five years ago for my first time I’ve been for almost three months in California hosted to my aunt Jo Ann Michetti, related to my dad.
Since that time I’ve been more time in Los Angeles periodically for concerts, business things and most important meet part of my family, cousins, obviously Jo Ann but new friends too that now are part of my family.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
First time I was totally excited. Can’t forget my first time outside the airport. All things to me were new, cars seems to my eyes so big, streets too. Different food, different habits. But love to start to live the Californian style. I grew up in Italy, Tuscany…differences are many. Struggles…I think language that now is fine for me more or less but I was really frustrated when my mouth wasn’t able to express how my mind was thinking. Now is different. I mean…I think was a smooth rod. I have brought out a courage that I did not think I had inside me.
But I want say that people here in Los Angeles are so kind with me, I’ve always felt supported. The simple request “how are you doing?” is always a comforting ritual phrase that make me feel sheltered.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a classical guitar player, my specialization is in chamber music. I love play with other instruments and this is what I started doing when I was 16, my first tournée in northern Italy.
I love teach guitar too, both ways for me are so important. I’ve studied so much since I was a child and so, share what I know is something that I love more in my life. Share emotions during concert and share what I know about guitar with my students. Students are my energy: I love finding with them unexplored paths inside the music, share emotions and grow to become like I always like to say:”better people with best music”
What sets me….i think stay in the classical style with a new energy and pop attitude. I’m very eclectic: for me guitar can express a new vision of the world, speak to hearts, draw pictures in the air….

What matters most to you? Why?
My family is the most important thing in my life. Mom, dad…they are always present in my life and when is possibile they come to listen me at concerts, obviously in Italy.
My brothers too, so close with their. Friends too.
Second, certainly not least is always be in touch with God. My inner life is a big universe and I always try to do my best to take care of my soul. Is like a garden, I have to treat my trees because without this i would not be able to share my music and my knowledge about guitar, my way.
So, for me music matters in the dimension in which it helps us to be better, it makes us know ourselves and others better: first step to be kind.
