Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Ros of Rise Athletics LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Ros

Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This can be quite long!
Welp it starts as a walk on athlete in college for the track team, knee surgery freshman year, going through kinesiology program to learn more about human performance and nutrition. Through my undergrad, I eventually earned a scholarship and was the team captain.
After graduating with my master’s I enter in to the work force as a personal trainer. I found a passion in helping others unlock hidden potentials.
In 2017 my dad had an opportunity he wanted me to be a part of, which was opening up a gym in DTLA.
We started small and have grown over the years. The gym has boxing, Hybrid HIIT, kickboxing, jiujitsu classes and yoga.
During this whole time I continued to coach elite athletes as well as people who continued to pursue excellence.
I continued to run myself, with the goal of going to Tokyo up until 2021, when I had my daughter. I decided to retire and push harder into business and my virtual coaching.
Here we are 7 years later with the business in DTLA, and I have coached high level athletes such as UFC fighters, Olympians, National champions, and continue to coach every day athletes who want to improve their health and wellness.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been ROUGH! But a smooth road does not lead to any fulfillment.
I went to school for training people to be physically fit, strong and healthy. I had to learn how to start, run and operate a business.
I am always willing to learn and do the hard work, but sometimes I had NO idea what I was doing or how to make that next step. Sometimes very frustrated and overwhelmed, but continued to push through to see the other side.
The pandemic was another challenge in and of itself when we were forced to close down.
Retiring from competing at an elite level running also caused some identity shifts and confusion as what I was “doing”.
Oh and then I had my daughter, we moved out of LA because LA and infants don’t mix.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our gym Rise Athletics LA was a passion project that turned out to grow into something so much bigger.
We started off with only martial arts and grew into a program that offered up to 7 different classes.
The most amazing part is the ability to help anyone at any level of their fitness journey.

Most people say they haven’t felt a gym that isn’t intimidating like ours is. We attribute that to the incredible community that has been built over the years.

We specialize in transformative fitness experience that include martial arts and strength training. Our wide variety of offerings allow members to dabble and find what they truly love, or mix it all up!

We have integrated a program to help kickstart peoples fitness journey’s that helps elevate their awareness of self, increase confidence and also get physical results.

Although we don’t classify ourselves as a “fight gym”, our head coach is a UFC fighter and all our coaches have 20+ years of experience. We root our standards in teaching real techniques, skills and self defense. A fun way to get fit and learn something.

For members looking to take it up a notch, we travel for competitions in jiujitsu and also have a USA Boxing Club team.

In the strength & conditioning class (Hybrid HIIT), we’re looking to do a Hyrox competition together soon! We’re always looking for outside events and activities to do!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk is necessary to get to places that the uncommon mindset cannot reach. This is in business, fitness, relationships and more.

If I had not decided to quit my job and move out to LA on a whim to begin this journey with my dad, I don’t know if Rise Athletics LA would even be a thing!

I’ve also started online coaching businesses in the past, which didn’t work but I pushed through and now have a successful program run through CRWN Athletics.

Thoughts & desires mean nothing if there is no action behind it!
