Community Highlights: Meet Adeline Sumney Wohlwend of Adeline Wohlwend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeline Sumney Wohlwend

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a swiss portrait and fashion photographer and have been based in Los Angeles the past 12 years.
After my bachelor in photography I started my career assisting some of the top photographers in the world, such as Peter Lindbergh.. This gave me a strong technical foundation, and practiced fluency with light and space.
My key strengths are connecting with people, drawing out their unique beauty. I love to capture unexpected moments to highlight the quality of my subjects character.
I have been working as a freelance commercial photographer for the past 18 years, main focus on portrait, beauty and fashion. Personal projects are landscapes all shot on film.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey of being a photographer has never been a smooth road for me. It’s been filled with ups and downs, teaching me the importance of focus and patience. I learned to be resilient during the quiet times when work was scarce and to manage my time effectively when things got busy. Most importantly, I’ve come to appreciate every small success and failure because that’s when I’ve learned the most.

There were times I considered changing careers because it became too difficult. Sometimes, believing in myself was the hardest part. However, as I learned to face life with a smile, all the rewards of being a photographer far outweighed the downsides.. The freedom it provides is irreplaceable, and at the end of the day, it’s always about that picture.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Adeline Wohlwend?
For over 15 years, I have worked as a photographer in LA and Europe, with an emphasis on beauty, fashion, and portrait photography. I am deeply interested in people and their stories, which is probably what draws me to portraiture. My sense of and need for beauty and art in life keep me on an ongoing journey. I’m fortunate to have a good intuition for reading people, which helps them feel comfortable in my presence and allows me to capture candid moments. Looking back on my career, I’m proud that I never compromised my style.
I’ve been fortunate to work with wonderful people and travel to incredible places. Traveling is one of the most important things to me and my family.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck; I believe in hard work. I’m not a religious person, but I am definitely spiritual, and I think there’s a certain path laid out for each of us. We all make daily decisions that affect our lives. I stay focused and work hard toward my goals, striving to be a good person, give back to the community, and trust that life unfolds as it’s meant to. There are times when I have a clear vision of how my life and career should look. But when I let go and live in the present, I find peace and contentment. Ultimately, I just want to enjoy life and explore new places in the world.
