Check Out Alyssa Agustin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Agustin

Hi Alyssa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started competing in pageants after graduating UC Irvine in 2021. It was during the pandemic and I felt that I wasn’t really doing too much with my life post-graduation. I knew someone in college who competed in Miss Filipina International so I decided to go for it. From then on, I’ve been hooked and have been competing in pageants to this day, with my recent pageant being Miss Philippines USA 2024!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When surrounded by a TON of beautiful women, you tend to compare yourself. It took some time for me to look at myself and NOT think of myself as the odd-one-out; but rather, someone amongst these beautiful women.
Another challenge that I’ve faced was not making it too far in these competitions. In the world of pageantry, the goal is to get the crown. Although I’ve been training for it, I just can’t seem to make the top 10. Despite this, I do feel myself getting better with every competition. This year, I won a sash for Miss Philippines USA Social Media Ambassador 2024! I’ve never won a sash before so this is such progress for the 3 years I’ve been doing this! I feel like I’m getting closer with each step.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from pageantry, I’m doing a whole bunch of other stuff and want to continue to pile them up. For one, I am a bartender and I really enjoy meeting people, making drinks, and not having to wake up too early (since I am a night owl). Other “side quests” include substitute teaching, hosting brand events for brands such as Celsius and White Claw to name a few, and seasonally I read UC Berkeley admissions essays, etc.. Overall, I’m just proud of the fact that I put myself out there and am willing to experiment with pathways that aren’t too traditional where I’m from–Oakland, California.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I intend to join more pageants. I do plan on going back to school one day, but it’s still on the back burner for now. I love traveling, and pageants and the programs that I find within pageantry helps me achieve that. Also, I hope to become more active with my social media, so be on the lookout for some Alybo content!
