Check Out Julia Garcia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Garcia

Hi Julia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since 2012, I have worked in the wedding industry, first as an event planner assistant, and then as an event manager. During that time, I always admired the wedding officiants’ role simply because they were integral in bringing people together. It is a very responsible mission on the one hand, but a very touching one on the other.

In March of 2019, I received my credentials to officiate. Since then, I have been privileged to conduct beautiful and memorable wedding ceremonies.
I love meeting couples and hearing their unique love stories. I love integrating into the ceremony custom readings, such as a fragment from the couple’s favorite novel, poem, or a song quote.

We live in multicultural society, therefore I enjoy including cultural traditions of a couple, for example Jewish (Breaking of the Glass), Slavic (Karavay), Mexican (Wedding Lasso, Las Arras), Persian (Honey Ceremony, Sugar Cloth), Celtic (Handfasting), etc. I also incorporate unity ceremonies, such as Sand Blending, Unity Planting, Candle, Tying the Knot, Blessing of the Hands, and others. I absolutely enjoy the fact that I help a bride and groom begin their new life as HUSBAND and WIFE. What could be better than being around two loving people, surrounded by happy friends and family? My business is more like my hobby. I perform a service that is rewarded with tears of happiness, sincere positive emotions, and a check!

I love to customize the look and feel of wedding ceremonies to meet the aspirations and imagination of my couples. Brides usually never ask me what I am going to wear at their ceremony, but I think it is very important to fit the best to the style of the wedding. I always ask their color palette and style. For example, if it is an elegant classy black & white wedding, the most appropriate officiant’s attire would be black tuxedo dress or suit; or if their style is a chic vintage Boho, then I wear a long flowing skirt/dress in the combination of dusty rose, chocolate, and cinnamon colors.

Since I became an officiant, I joined a number of online and offline event professional’s groups. I attend as much as I can networking meetings. I believe in personal meetings so much because I love meeting the industry professionals, getting to know them, learning about their services and experiences, and building strong and trustworthy relationships. I also love helping my fellow vendors/friendors by referring my couples to them, and always happy working together as a team!

This year, I won California Wedding Day Magazine Awards of 2024 as BEST OFFICIANT OF Malibu/Ventura & Santa Barbara regions! I’m absolutely thrilled that I won “Oscars” for the Wedding Industry in two counties!
I thank all who voted for me! I appreciate every couple who trusted and chose me! I am very grateful to all industry professionals who voted for me in the second round!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
On the beginning, being not native English speaker, sometimes I felt like people did not book me because of my Slavic accent. But later, when I built my confidence, I found out that many couple hired me because of that ‘cute accent’. Especially, I got complimented from diverse couples. Today, I don’t feel uncomfortable about my accent. I provide excellent services with an individual approach to every couple, doesn’t mattes if it is an elopement just for two or a big formal wedding.
