Today we’d like to introduce you to Ximena Etchart
Hi Ximena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
With a background rooted in editorial photography and visual journalism training at ICP in New York, I embarked on a professional journey capturing stories for magazines and newspapers. Over the years, a personal shift occurred as I became a mother, leading to a profound transformation in my photographic focus.
Seven years ago, I transitioned from documenting the world through a journalistic lens to intimately capturing the beauty of family life. Specializing in family photography, I have discovered a deep passion for preserving genuine and unfiltered moments. The magic of family portraits lies in the authenticity—the raw, imperfect, yet profoundly meaningful connections that define our lives.
For me, the essence of photography is about capturing these real, fleeting moments that become cherished memories. Document those “big little memories” creating timeless images that families will treasure forever.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s common for creative careers such as photography, to come with their share of challenges. As an immigrant, navigating a new cultural and professional landscape adds an extra layer of complexity to the journey. However, overcoming these challenges lead to significant personal and professional growth. It makes me so grateful, because meeting all the families that I was able to shoot along the way, has also helped me personally in my journey as a mother.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I want your family photos with me to be more than just images; I want them to capture the true essence of your connections in this very moment. It’s about the raw, real moments that define your family. I cherish my background in visual journalism for its ability to preserve these genuine stories. Together, we’ll create memories that not only reflect your present but also become cherished keepsakes for the future.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I LOVE LA! I love the landscape, the weather, the light, how you’re able to transition from one landscape to other in a matter of minutes. I feel very grateful to be able to be a photographer in LA.
