Check Out Douglas Kampner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Kampner

Hi Douglas, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up just two houses away from the Hollywood icon Bing Crosby, who was a close family friend, gave me an early introduction to the entertainment world. My first job in Hollywood was as a newsboy in the Disney film “Newsies”. From there, I became a lifeguard on “Baywatch”, which was an exciting step in my career.

Over the years, I began taking on more principal roles, like portraying a CIA agent in the award-winning film “Argo”. One of my standout experiences was working on the hit miniseries “The People vs. O.J. Simpson” as a body double for John Travolta, who played lawyer Johnny Cochran.

Each of these roles has been a key part of my journey, which all started with Bing Crosby’s influence.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—far from it. Throughout my 31 years in Hollywood, I faced significant financial difficulties. Growing up in San Francisco, I had to learn to adjust my living situation and lifestyle to make ends meet, especially during times when work was scarce. While having connections like Bing Crosby helped me get my foot in the door, sustaining a career in Hollywood is challenging.

There were stretches where I didn’t know where my next job would come from, and that uncertainty was tough. Transitioning from smaller roles to more principal ones also required constant effort to prove myself. Working as a body double for someone as established as John Travolta came with intense pressure to meet high expectations.

Through it all, I found that taking acting classes and continuously honing my craft was crucial. It not only helped me improve my skills but also kept me motivated and prepared for the next opportunity.

These struggles taught me resilience and determination, pushing me to keep pursuing the roles I was passionate about.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart as an oil painter is my unique creative flow of colors on canvas and my ability to blend different techniques and skill sets. Just as I blend colors in my paintings to create vivid and dynamic pieces, my acting career and professional art blend seamlessly, showcasing different facets of my creative expression.

One of my major accomplishments in acting is working with Academy Award-winning director David O. Russell on a Quaker State motor commercial during the time of “The Fighter”, which starred Mark Wahlberg.

In my art career, I’m proud to have my work displayed in at least ten galleries throughout Los Angeles. These achievements highlight my dedication and success in both fields.

How do you define success?
To me, success is not only about achieving personal goals but also about making a meaningful impact on others. One of my proudest accomplishments was donating a kidney to my sister.

This act was deeply fulfilling and showed me that success is also about personal sacrifices and the positive effects they can have on loved ones. It was a significant achievement for me, both personally and emotionally.
