Daily Inspiration: Meet Zac Hammer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zac Hammer

Zac, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a proud dog daddy myself, and have worked with dogs all my life. Like so many moving to Los Angeles, I came to make my dreams come true. However this chapter represents a major vocational shift for me. I’m a former professional dancer from New York City and spent well over a decade in contemporary dance companies and danced for The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Shifting careers later in life comes with its challenges. But it’s always been about passion for me, and dogs are a huge passion. Ultimately, I’m finding that these two careers really compliment each other- the grind of the NYC dance life taught me a lot about hard work and dedication, and I’m well aware of the long hours required for working professionals- and just how often dog parents need a helping hand. Los Angeles is SUCH a dog town, and I want help my fellow Angelenos rest a little easier with their canine buddies.

I’ve loved working for myself, am busy studying for my canine training and behavior certification, and continuing to scale up services. It’s been a wild ride, and my husband and two dogs (a pug and a pit bull) have been so incredibly supportive of my journey. I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

I play D&D, am a Leo/Cancer cusp, and I love Star Wars a little too much.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The largest struggle is starting from scratch. LA has no shortage of dog care services, and breaking through has been top of mind. I’ve always led any decision-making with a single question- what’s the best choice for the health and happiness of the dog? That informs everything, and a well-balanced, healthy dog is the companion folks want. People want that level of care. I know I do. I really think that’s why the business has taken hold so quickly.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Zac’s Woof Pack is a dog walking/boarding service for East Los Angeles. We specialize in pack walks, training, and boarding. I’m most proud of the service we provide for working professionals. The fact they can go to work guilt free knowing that their dog is in our hands is something we take very seriously. We’re here to help meet your dog’s needs (exercise, mental stimulation, socialization) so you and your companion can have a worry free week! Also, I’m realizing I’m a pretty amazing dog photographer, so hopefully my clients can have some “framers” as part of the deal!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the weather, obviously…until I’m walking packs in August, or during this crazy hot week we’ve been having. Then it’s rough. We keep our walks early for that reason.
On a personal note, I love that LA is such a food city. Date nights just got a whole lot more interesting, and the East Side has no shortage of cuisines and food trucks and fun happy hours. LA is a great time (and you can take dogs EVERYWHERE).
