Daily Inspiration: Meet Colin Macleod

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colin Macleod

Hi Colin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up traveling between America and Germany thanks to my father’s success as an opera singer. Being raised as an actor in the theater scene ignited my lifelong passion for the arts. Eventually leading to becoming a stand-up comedian performing in my early years in Singapore, later graduating to performing all around Los Angeles. My writing career started with the Eisner Award-nominated comic book Hatter M, by Image Comics. Recently worked with Universal Parks and DreamWorks writing a Kung Fu Panda theme park ride that debuted in 2021.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There is nothing smooth about becoming an artist. You sign up for a business but all you want to do is create. However, it’s a constant grind trying to get people to notice you, let alone pay you. Working for yourself is great, but the income is inconsistent. You have to truly love who you are and what you do to continue down the path of an artist. I face rejection on a daily basis, but I’m confident in what I do because I’ve spent a lifetime developing my skills.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a writer, actor, and stand-up comedian.

Most proud of my ability to write. I got my start in comic books editing the Eisner Award nominated independent graphic novel series “Hatter M” based on a character from The NY Times best-selling YA series “The Looking Glass Wars.” Also, helped develop the musical play script based on the same series.

Additionally, love my work on a Kung Fu Panda theme park ride that debuted at Universal Studios Beijing and is now going to parks worldwide.

My screenplays have found successes in competitions. I wrote a fantasy comedy tv show that was voted into the top 1% on Coverfly’s Red List. I was also a top 10 finalist with an alternative history script for Roadmap Writers.

As an actor I booked a childhood dream job in a small creature character part on a Disney Star Wars show with Jude Law premiering in December called Star Wars: Skeleton Crew..

As a comedian, I’m just proud I can conquer that live performance fear every night no matter what comedy club I’m performing at around L.A. Writing jokes is no easy task.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
NY Times best-selling author and producer of “There’s Something About Mary” Frank Beddor was my mentor having hired me as his assistant, then later to help pen his first graphic novel series. This launched me into a career as a writer.

My parents who put me on stage when I was four-years-old. My father being a world-traveling opera singer and my mother was an actress and model who appeared in movies like “She’s Having a Baby” with Kevin Bacon.
