Life & Work with Jake Ryan of LA/Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Ryan

Hi Jake , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I knew I wanted to perform at a very young age. I started acting at the age of 11 and started singing at the age of 13. I grew up doing many local theatre productions, commercials, student films as well as training and auditioning/callbacks. After several years of hard work, I finally landed a Lifetime movie called “Girl in the Basement” which is still currently on Amazon and Hulu. Unfortunately, covid happened right after that and the acting business slowed down tremendously. During that time, I started turning my focus to music. I already knew I could sing because of my musical theatre experience growing up, but my passion for singing and music grew so much in these years. I learned how to play the piano, the guitar, write songs, record vocals in the studio and well as dance. I surrounded myself with amazing song writers and as I was in the process of releasing my first single in 2023, I got a callback for a singing/dancing pop group that was being put together by by Terrance “T-Low” Brown from the R&B group “Next”. After 10 days of an intense boot camp in Atlanta, I made the cut and ended up being one of the five members of CRFW (Curfew). Since being put together, we’ve recorded countless songs, performed around the country in places like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Denver and are still touring the west coast. We just released our first song called “Sunset Drive” on all platforms, and our social media is wearecrfw on Instagram, crfw5 on Tik Tok and our website is crfw5.com.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No journey worthwhile is a smooth road, I’ve faced many challenges and still do. One of which was getting into CRFW, I was not a natural born dancer, and I was competing against professional dancer and people who have been dancing their whole life to get into this group. I had to really work extra hard at my dancing and put it many many hours of training. Another challenge was the writers strike and the SAG strike shutting down the film industry, keeping many actors including myself out of work. The current challenge is keeping up with the amount of travelling I do, being on tour and always flying across country. It’s taken some getting used to but I would not trade it for anything. And finally, not to state the obvious, but the everyday struggles in the acting and music industry speak of themselves

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actor, vocalist, musician, and performer. Some specialties I bring to the table are that I play piano, have perfect pitch, and have a memory like an elephant. I’ve also always had a big focus on connecting to my audience and giving them an experience they can remember. Whether it’s a song I write, a song I sing, a movie I act in or a show I perform with my group, I always specialize in making sure I connect to whoever I play for, whether it’s through feelings of excitement, laughter, tears, I make sure I can connect to them every time. That is what got me into entertainment in the first place and I am lucky to have been able to do it for so long. Currently in my career, I am known for my work in the Lifetime movie “Girl in the Basement” (2021) and now being one of five members of the pop group CRFW (Curfew). Throughout my journey in the business, I am most proud of the person I’ve become in the process, the people I’ve met and the connections I’ve made.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I graduated from college at 19.
