Meet Jeremy Lucido of Jeremy Lucido Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Lucido.

Jeremy is an artist, photographer and creative director located in downtown Los Angeles. Born in a suburb outside of Saint Louis, Missouri, Lucido was encouraged to follow his interest in art at an early age. At the age of 21, he moved to Hollywood, California to attend Otis College of Art and Design and receive a BFA in Photography. During this time, he discovered his interest and love for portrait photography.

Shortly after graduating college, he accepted a job as a video editor for an online adult production company. He quickly grew within the industry and became the lead photographer as well as director for several films. His 10 years in the adult industry helped shape his love for portrait work and define his raw erotic style.

In 2010, Jeremy self-published Starrfucker Magazine, a black-and-white printed zine featuring his own provocative photography as well as other art from contributing artists. It was a way for him to bring together the two parts of his life together as one… Art and Sex.

Jeremy published his first (208 page) photo book entitled once again, Starrfucker (published by Bruno Gmunder) featuring his stunning portraiture.

His work is celebrated and collected worldwide. The “New Beefcake” series has been published and shown in galleries in the past year. His love for portrait photography is stronger than ever and he is currently available for commissioned portrait, event, erotic and editorial photography.

With the influx of Gay bars and nightlife into the ever-growing downtown neighborhood, Jeremy can be seen at bars such as Precinct and Redline capturing queer nightlife in his own style, always with the focus on a person’s story.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled to find my place in the world of art and photography. It was not always easy to accept a balance between my art education and influence with my interest in beefcake style imagery. I have come to terms with being pigeonholed as an “erotic artist” as if art and sexuality must be mutually exclusive. Some of my artwork may be erotic, raw and even sexual, but most of my commissioned portrait work requires clothing. I will always tap into the same rawness and vulnerability as I do with all my work to capture the perfect portrait that represents the model.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jeremy Lucido Photography – what should we know?
My company Jeremy Lucido Photography encompasses all that I do with photography including nightlife, Starrfucker Magazine, portrait photography and my original art prints. I am known for capturing natural and beautiful intimate portraits. Many of my portrait clients have seen my work either in my art gallery (JeremyLucido.com) or magazine (Starrfucker Magazine) and are curious to discover their model within. Often the client that books a shoot has never been in front of the camera before and are looking to explore a little. As you can see, I am known for my portraits of men, although that was not by design. It was something that developed over the years, as a gay man, many of my models are friends, acquaintances and so on. With this, I have crafted a talent for male beauty, my version of the “male gaze.”

I shoot with my models one on one and focus on capturing a private moment in time. When a client hires me multiple times because they trust me and love the results, I know I have found my calling. I believe in doing what you want to do, no matter what anyone else tells you. I do just that, and my artwork reflects it.
