Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Alejo
Hi Alexis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“People talk about perfect timing, but I think everything is perfect in its moment, you just want to capture that.”- Eddie Huang. I’m sure you have heard many stories about being inspired by someone famous, yet my story is different. I am from a city that is not well known, but here is your hint: The Beach Boys, heard of them? No? Exactly. I grew up in a city where my neighborhood wasn’t the safest, but as I grew up, I learned although there are obstacles in your life, eventually things will get better. I remember when I was in High-school, I remember watching a television show called, “America’s Next Top Model,” and you’re probably wondering, “Oh maybe she wants to be a model?” Correction, I was inspired by the person who was taking photos of the models. I remember how exciting it might be to be behind a camera, to be able to print out the photos once the photoshoot was over. In 2014, I got my first camera, which was a Nikon DSLR D3200. I was so excited to get started. My first photography gig was in 2015 for a Sweet 16. I remember I had no experience but from that moment, I had positive feedback and confidence that Photography is my passion. So many opportunities came my way, and as of today, Photography is my passion yet, I am now showing a new generation about photography. I’m teaching kids different ways to use photography and to be creative on what they see. I want to inspire kids or others out there to always capture the moment and to always remember that life has obstacles but there will always be a way to get back up again.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started photography, it was a struggle. I remember how there was a financial problem within my family and I didn’t want my parents to be more stressed out with knowing how expensive camera equipment was. I had to wait many year to get my photography out there. Since then, I was able to have more opportunities with the help of Social Media, which resulted me to continue my photography passion.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Before I got into photography, I worked at many places. I started at Party City, where I did customer service. I used to love giving costume ideas to customers during the Halloween season. Next, I helped my dad with his business where I also helped with customer service. As of now, I do photography opportunities during the weekends, but on weekdays, I work at 2 elementary schools. I never thought that I will be working two jobs. I learned how to manage my time, stay organized and be able to inspire kids. In my photography journey, I am not set on what I specialized in, but, I just love to capture everything. Whether it’s landscapes, family photos, or a big celebration, I love to capture everything. On Social media, I am known for Disney Content and taking photos. I was always the person with the camera, which I honestly don’t mind. I am most proud of the ability of making connections with others. I always made sure clients are comfortable around me during photoshoots. I always remind my clients to be themselves and imagine me not being there. I know how anxious photoshoots can be, but when there is a sense of comfort, everything will go smoothly. I think making good connections with others is what sets me apart from others, it’s the ability of feeling relaxed and comfort. I tend to focus on capturing every moment from a different point of view with makes others to feel comfortable and happiness.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The apps that I mainly use is Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest and Lightroom mobile. I use these apps every single day. To Showcase my photography journey, I use Instagram the most. This where I post most of my work and I use Lightroom to edit the photos on there. I use Pinterest for Pose ideas during my photoshoots. Pinterest is an amazing app for photography tips and poses. Lastly, I use Tik Tok, for my creative side. I love to do small vlogs of my daily life and I sometimes showcase my photos.
