Meet Wendy Turner of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Turner

Hi Wendy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in northern California and grew up there until my early 20’s. My dad is a veterinarian and I have always loved animals. I worked with him on exotic animals like tigers, bears and elephants. I went to school to be a Veterinarian and take over his business. But later I left to pursue my love for acting. I have been a vegan for 15 years and volunteer at animal rescues and I am an advocate for animal rights. I use to get intense migraines since the age of nine. I was on anti-seizure medication and did brain scans and blood work every six months. That all changed when I went vegan, and I have been off them all and vegan ever since. I also practice yoga which I picked up at age 14. It taught me about being in the moment and listening to my body. I am a single mom with two children who are the loves of my life, and they too audition and act. As of last year I also take care of my mom who is a stroke victim, she lives with me and my children. Since coming back to work I have keep busy modeling and still audition when I can. I also have done some veterinary work when I am needed or looking to keep busy between acting and modeling jobs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, It never is. This industry is full of rejection and you have to have thick skin and a strong belief in yourself. I remember one day in particular I had two auditions and they were so close to each other I parked in the middle of the block to get to them both. I have never had that happen before or since. I went to one and the casting director said that I was too short and thick and that I was average looking. The second one I went to the casting director said I was too tall and thin and too exotic looking. That day I realized that God was telling me, “Wendy everyone is going to see you the way they want to see you, just be yourself and don’t listen to others opinion.” Body rejection was also a big hurdle, especially in modeling. Back then the industry was not as body accepting as it is becoming. I’m happy that the industry is changing its perseption of beauty.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started acting in the third grade. I was the lead in the school play. I remember thinking if I could do this all the time I’d be in heaven. I did theater and improv throughout high school and college. I performed in “The Crucible,” in High School and received an award for best stand out actor for my performance. Eventually moving to Los Angeles. I started doing modeling once in LA and that took more of my time. I have walked runways, graced magazine covers, booked national commercials and acted in TV, movies and theater. When I had my children I stopped acting and modeling full time and focused on them. I have since recently returned to the industry both acting and modeling. I feel blessed to have been able to have a my children and do what I love.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My children are always my biggest muses in my life. I have amazing friends who are my chosen family that have encouraged throughout of my life. My best friend and Godmother to my children Kate has been by my side since the beginning. My mom was a big supporter in my modeling and my dad always taught me to be professional and a hard worker.
