Rising Stars: Meet Anoush Nicoghosian of Los Angeles County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anoush Nicoghosian

Hi Anoush, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Anoush Nicoghosian, I’m a Lettering Artist & the founder of anoush dsgn LLC, an L.A. based small business dedicated to Armenian Alphabet Art.

I’ve always loved to draw and had a thing for the Armenian alphabet. Even when I was a child back in the Netherlands where I grew up half Armenian, half Dutch. When I first decided to combine my love for art and Armenian letters, I began with the idea that I could take an ancient script and bring a new & adventurous approach to the table. I called it “Armenian Alphabet Art with a Twist” and it drew the attention of both Armenian and non-Armenian viewers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My personal drive to preserve the Armenian alphabet & create an original style of my own, has pushed me to where I am today professionally. It hasn’t been easy (and still isn’t), as it can take a while for some people to step out of their comfort zone when it comes to Armenian art that’s non-traditional. But the challenge is what motivates me most. At the end of the day, it’s all about loving what you do and making people smile while doing it.

What started as a hobby by sharing my hand lettering experiments on social media, grew into owning an online art shop where people can find a selection of my artwork they would want to welcome into their home.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
You can recognize my style by my hand drawn letterforms & illustrations that highlight the beauty of Armenian letters. My work is often bilingual and is focused on stylized, but visually pleasing lettering art. As a half Armenian diaspora artist who’s not proficient in the Armenian language, my Armenian identity has always been an important part of my life. My work is a reflection of how the different languages spoken by Armenians don’t just coexist, but weave in and out of each other to form the essence of the diaspora.

From cute Monster Letters to 100% REAL Food Lettering. From illustrated Armenian Pun Art to Chalkboard Lettering. I will always continue to find new ways to bring the same amount of adventure to the letters and branch out to get creative with my work.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My art is fueled by my deep appreciation of hand drawn letters and my commitment to preserve the Armenian alphabet. Hand lettered alphabets & phrases, modern calligraphy pieces and even whimsical illustrations. All meticulously crafted by hand to create high-quality & eye-catching wall art prints that can be enjoyed by all ages, for many years to come.
