Exploring Life & Business with Natalie Amir-Alvarez of The Agency RE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Amir-Alvarez

Hi Natalie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Los Angeles with a Palestinian mother and an Israeli father, in a city rich with diverse cultures and religions. Sadly, my mother passed away when I was 15, and life became extremely challenging for my family. We lost our home, moved frequently, and my four sisters and I were separated. We moved across the country several times before returning to Los Angeles, with the three older sisters living on our own while our two younger sisters stayed behind.

At 15, I held three jobs and continued to juggle multiple roles over the years, gaining a wide range of experience. I eventually entered the mortgage world, then moved into the engineering field, working in a salaried position at a structural engineering firm. It was a paycheck-to-paycheck job, and I felt like something was missing. My partner, George Ouzounian, played a significant role in changing my career trajectory.

George is incredibly passionate about real estate, and his enthusiasm was contagious. We met during a transaction I was helping my sister with, and he encouraged me to get my real estate license. I decided to take the plunge, and it wasn’t easy—I had to hustle and learn the ins and outs of the industry, from understanding market trends to mastering negotiation tactics. But I was determined and eager to succeed.

Eventually, all that hard work paid off. I started working with George, and together we moved to The Agency. Since then, it’s been an incredible journey. We’ve faced challenges, but we’ve also achieved great success. Our hard work and dedication have consistently propelled us forward, and I’m excited to see where this path takes us next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were quite a few. One of the toughest parts was dealing with difficult transactions and the fact that I had no income for months before making my first deal. I worked every single day, including weekends, to learn the ropes and get ahead. There were times when I wanted to give up. Moreover, being a woman in this position with six children wasn’t always looked upon highly. It added an extra layer of challenge, as I had to balance my professional ambitions with my responsibilities at home. But I believe these obstacles made me stronger and more resilient. They pushed me to work harder and prove myself in an industry that can be incredibly demanding.
