Today we’d like to introduce you to Tal Rabinowitz.
Tal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in entertainment. I was originally hired as a PA for Road Rules, and quickly moved in to their product placement division and had the opportunity to work on The Real World. It was a dream job; a lot of young employees which was perfect for someone like me who knew nobody in Los Angeles. Some of my closest friends, now almost 20 years later, are ones I met while at that job. I was VERY lucky, and had a great run in comedy development for television. I started as an assistant at NBC, worked for a producer at FOX and then by 25 was an executive at The WB. (Doesn’t even exist anymore!!)
I worked on the studio side at SONY Television and I ended up back at NBC for my final job, running the comedy department. While I was at NBC, I began meditating and I was looking for a way to make my practice a more regular one. I was looking online for places I could drop in and take a class before work, or during lunch… something easy that would fit in my busy schedule, and it didn’t exist anywhere. I couldn’t believe it. When my contract ended at NBC I took some time for myself, but this idea kept persisting. With the encouragement and literal support from my partner, I decided to go full steam ahead and open up the business. We also adopted an amazing baby girl simultaneously, so when I look back on my life 3 years ago vs today, it is so very different.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think smooth is about perspective. There are so many stories I could share that remind me of tough times, but all in all, yes, I would say smooth as I have always followed my gut and every experience has led me to exactly where I need to be. I try not to let the struggles weigh me down, rather, I usually take them as learning opportunities…. “What could I have done differently? Why do I feel like I am in this position? What part did I play in this?” There is always something to learn, and if you learn the lessons, then the struggle doesn’t feel like a true struggle, more like a speed bump.
Please tell us about The DEN Meditation.
We are a drop in meditation studio that makes modern day meditation accessible and easy. I am proud that we took a risk and helped pave the way for a whole new generation and type of self-care commerce. I love that we help people feel good every day and can really impact someone’s life. That is the best part.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I lived a very typical East coast life. So, running around and having adventures – so many are my memories. Whether it’s riding on bikes with friends, or wandering by myself, or jumping in leaves…. spending time outside and smelling the change of seasons is a general memory I will always cherish.
