Today we’d like to introduce you to Alua Abdikakhar

Hi Alua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to change my specialty while pursuing my bachelor’s degree. Initially, I was studying computer science, but I realized I didn’t see myself as a programmer in the future. So, I began exploring other fields to find what truly interested me. My family and I have always been passionate about cartoons; it’s our tradition to gather in the kitchen and watch animated films from Disney, DreamWorks, or Pixar. One day, while watching Kung Fu Panda, I realized that’s what I wanted to do. From that moment, I started exploring the animation world, and every new thing I learned excited me. I took a course in 3D modeling and couldn’t stop myself after that. I was so happy to finally find what I truly want to do, and I believe I can change the world through animated films.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has never been a smooth road. Unfortunately, in my home country, animation wasn’t popular back then, and there weren’t many people to seek guidance from. So, I decided to pursue my master’s degree in the US. During these two years, I have learned and grown so much. There were many struggles, such as the language barrier, homesickness, and building a new social network. I had to constantly remind myself why I chose this path, but I have never once regretted my decision to step out of my comfort zone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since graduating from New York Film Academy this December, I’ve been actively working on several projects as a rigging artist and tech supervisor. Additionally, I’ve been fortunate to receive mentorship from someone at Netflix. In my spare time, I enjoy networking with others in the industry and discussing various aspects of animation and game industry.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is about pursuing my passions, finding balance in life, and embracing meaningful opportunities.
