Meet Tee Kustin of Sherman Oaks, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tee Kustin

Hi Tee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing at 16 doing the trend party dances then I realized it was more to dance when I watched KOD. Seeing freestylers dance in a stadium blew my mind so I started to train in freestyle. I didn’t really have any base or guidance till I met my teacher Weezy the Phoenix shortly after we started traveling around the southern states of America and I slowly started gaining more experience and exposure to hip-hop dance. That’s when I dedicated the next few years to freestyle hip-hop I started at 19 and now I’m 23. I made the decision to move to Los Angeles when I was 21 the idea of coming to a place with the best dancers in the world drove me to work really hard to get here which is why I started picking up choreography it was never something I considered, until I realized all of the best dancers can do choreography and freestyle. Now I teach weekly classes in battle as much as I can..

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle was not seeing exactly a clear path of where freestyle dance could take me. There’s not really a program for people who take the freestyle route other than battling with more time. I started to realize there’s different news I can take with my skills.. Also, starting out when nobody understands the reasoning behind, you do what you do. It’s kind of discouraging, but I had to trust my gut feeling. I’m the only one in the arts or entertainment industry, so it was definitely a new experience for my whole family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional hip-hop dancer I teach and I also battle I make choreography and I do choreography. My specialty is freestyle hip-hop most known for the battles I’ve done in the most proud of my Red Bull experience and a few months back. I just did Coachella with the K-pop group Ateez. The biggest thing that set me apart is me having no hesitation to unknown results regardless if I know if it’s gonna work or not, I’m at least going to try.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The thing I like most about Los Angeles is the mix of cultures. I’ve been exposed to so many different people from around the world that I’ve never met or even heard of. So the culture shock of the city is definitely my favorite part. The thing I like least about LA is when I see people lose themselves in the city or give up because of the city being too much for them
