Conversations with Taylor Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Jones

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love for photography came from my father. When I was younger, my dad traveled a lot for work and would always come back with amazing stories and photos from his travels. I would always look forward to the images he showed me, and at one point, he stopped taking his camera on work trips and left me the camera to play around with while he was gone. Ever since then, I have loved capturing the world around me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. There have been so many times on my journey with photography where I have questioned my work and wondered if what I was creating was good enough. I think as an artist, it sometimes is so hard to not compare your work or your life trajectory to others. There have been a number of times in the past where I have not shot for months on end because I just did not feel like I was creating something beautiful. It has been a road full of ups and downs, but at my core I know photography will always be the passion that drives me forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. I specialize in portrait photography, but also shoot a number of other subjects. I have been shooting for as long as I can remember ( I think I was in middle school when my dad lent me his camera). I think what I am most proud of with myself and my work are the connections I have made through photography, and building not just my portfolio, but friendships as well with fellow creatives. As of right now, I shoot both on digital and film cameras, and am trying to solely become a film photographer. I think what sets me apart from others is that I fully want to switch from digital to primarily film. Whenever I shoot, I always bring my Canon AE-1 with me, because I know there will be a moment that I will want to capture on film. There is something so beautiful and nostalgic about film, and I think the act of shooting on film helps me to stop and really take in the moment that I am capturing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I feel like I have been very fortunate and lucky in my career because I have been heavily blessed with a supportive community. Anytime I post about my work, my friends and family immediately repost and share with their networks, which in turn helps me book more shoots with new clients. My family and friends mean so much to me, and their support for me & my work throughout the years has me feeling like the luckiest person in the world. Community is everything to me, and I again feel so lucky to have such an amazing set of people in my life who are constantly rooting for me!
