Meet Layla Sade of Total NutriCare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Layla Sade.

Layla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
What motivated me to get into this field of profession is dated in 2004, My dad (who was a strength pillar in my life) was having a few health-related issues such as: high blood pressure and cardiovascular problems. I was taking him to his regular primary doctor visits and was involved in all aspect of his healthcare.

After a year or so, his issues not only got better but now we had to deal with more problems, such as gastric issues, dementia, shaking of hands, etc… I knew that his medications were making him sicker. So now he was on 12 different medications. I took matters into my own hands and started doing more research. I had my B.S in chemistry and biomedical engineering and had initially hoped to pursuit a medical profession, but had a detour and continued with my education in getting my masters in food science and Nutrition. By then, I was using natural medicine-food to help my dad with his illnesses.

After a while, his blood pressure normalized and his dementia subsided. But my education was not sufficient enough to manage his other health problems. I went on and got my Ph.D. in Holistic Nutrition which was not offered anywhere near where I lived. So be it! I went back and forth for 4 years (Alabama) to get my degree. After 8-9 years of getting higher education in the field of natural medicine, I was able to cure so many of my dad’s health problems but I just wish I could have done it earlier to add more quality to his life. It’s been 10 years that I have started helping people adding life to their years (instead of adding years to their life) and it has been an AMAZING to witness my patients to start living a more fulfilled and healthy lifestyle.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was never smooth to start my profession about 10 years ago, as holistic nutrition was not recognized by many and they’d call me a “voodoo doctor” or my patients wanted a “quick fix tablets” so I had to spend more time educating everyone what my profession is about.

And that was the hardest part of my career because people were not only open to living a healthy lifestyle to prevent and manage diseases but they were making fun of this field. I’m glad those days are gone! 🙂

Please tell us about Total NutriCare.
Total NutriCare specializes in how to live a healthy lifestyle. Holistic nutrition means in order to have a balanced life you should be balanced physically, mentally, and spiritually. I have been able to coach and educated people to achieve that balance in life. Living a healthy life doesn’t mean only to eat healthy food. Living a healthy life means having a healthy state of mind, feeding your body Wholesome foods, and having a spiritual practice.

Because my field of profession was not understood by many I was in the hidden and afraid of being rejected by people. So I would speak out more freely about the importance of holistic living and I wouldn’t be concerned about people’s judgments of me or my profession.
