Meet Rebecca Kovach of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Kovach

Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It must be the curious Sagittarius in me, but when I moved out to Los Angeles to be an actor, I knew I would eventually try on all the hats.

Since graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, I have strived to tackle every angle of film making I can in order to better understand what it is like many jobs in the film industry. I’ve written a variety of screenplays, directed and produced many projects, started a photography business and a painting business, and expanded my portfolio as a plus size model.

I’ve produced a number of film projects including short films and webisodes. Last year, I tackled my very first music video, “No Te Quiero Ver” by pop artist AnDel.

I’m still head quite over heels in love with acting, and I train weekly with the Brian Cutler Actors Studio. To any actors looking for terrific on screen experience and a future career in film, I couldn’t recommend Brian Cutler’s program enough. He really goes above and beyond to get every student prepared for a successful acting career in the film industry. Everything serves a purpose in such a terrific way.
Some of my most recent acting work includes a national commercial for the Ad Council where I play a humorous zen masseuse!

There are so many unique opportunities to enjoy and participate in beautiful art in Los Angeles, it’s truly around every corner! I’ve enjoyed embracing all of the one of a kind adventures that the city has to offer, and I believe it makes me a more well rounded artist and filmmaker. I encourage anyone on an acting journey in Los Angeles to get outside and participate in as much as you can while you’re in this amazing city. So many opportunities are readily available here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My time in Los Angeles has certainly been a winding one! There have been plenty of humbling moments and forks in the road. For example, deciding to become a completely green filmmaker meant going in completely vulnerable to making every possible mistake I could make, oftentimes to embarrassing results. I had to develop a thick skin and a lighter heart about being wrong, and check my ego quite a bit!

I really adore the quote that says, “Be brave enough to suck at something new.” That may as well be my mantra! No one is born with an industry pamphlet hard wired in their brains, and we’re all green to some extent. I think it’s so important to give yourself the grace to fail and the patience to take your time to truly learn, over and over again.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My favorite stories to tell are the ones that empower people in a humorous and unique way. I love a good traditional superhero film as much as the next guy, but some of my favorite stories include a fresh look at our humanity, with all of it’s funny, awkward imperfections. The stuff that makes us flawed and silly and weird… now that’s the good stuff.

I really enjoy taking part in stories that empower people through a fresh perspective. For example, I love “flipping the script”, so to speak, on gender roles and challenging it by giving roles that are often seen as more masculine to women and vice versa. I think that we as people are so deeply complex and interesting, and there is this gold mine in the industry when we give women the opportunity to play to their masculine side, and men, the opportunity to play their softer, feminine side. There is a lot of power in allowing people to explore all the parts of themselves, particularly those parts that historically haven’t had much screentime.

I really hope to keep people on their toes with my stories! I want to tell stories that surprise people and even make people look at themselves in a whole new way.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there is any message I would like to spread with my work, it is that inside every person is an incredible artist with a beautiful story. Today, you are a wonderful and unique gift to the world, just by being here today.
