Meet Fifteen0eight Daphne Eleftheriadou & Tomer Oron of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fifteen0eight Daphne Eleftheriadou & Tomer Oron

Hi Fifteen0eight, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We initially met in 2021 over a zoom class while living abroad. Daphne reached out to me at the end of the year to collaborate on some music. When we met in-person months later in Boston, the connection was instantaneous. That first night we’d end up recording/producing what would become the intro track to our debut EP, “the End of the Beginning.” I think we both realized after creating that song how rare and special of a partnership we may have accidentally stumbled upon- If you think making genuine friendships is hard, imagine finding someone who you not only vibe with on a personal level, but also creatively and professionally… it was everything we were looking for. We started working every single night. Our entire first year ran on a schedule of university classes during the day, and creating music from 9pm going til 4 in the morning every night. It was Tomer that really pushed us to keep such a strict schedule. I remember days he’d call to remind me about our upcoming session, eventually it became routine and evidently defined who we are as artists and the essence of Fifteen0eight.

Fifteen0eight was named by a friend of ours actually. We were submitting to a festival at the time, and at the first question “BAND NAME?” we were kind of like… oh yea, I guess we need one of those… 1508 was the number of the apartment/studio we met and recorded all of our first music in. The name just stuck and felt right.

Today, we’ve performed all across the globe, done a sold-out tour with SoFar Sounds, and this summer we’ll be playing in Lollapalooza Chicago on August 2nd. We’re so proud and humbled and excited for everything that’s to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest part is just believing in yourself, really. When surrounded by people who won’t show any interest in your project unless you have the numbers to prove it, it can be really disheartening and discouraging. We’ve had so many “no’s” all across the board, but if you let that get to you it can really slow down your momentum and all it does is prove the haters right. Luckily we’ve had each other to calm the other down when negative thoughts get in the way. We always talk everything out in the open before a session, making sure we don’t bring any of that energy into the studio.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Fifteen0eight is a non-conforming, genre-bending musical duo, specializing in alt-pop/electronic music. We’re big on sound design, making unique intricate drum patterns, stacking vocal harmonies like there’s no tomorrow and crafting the punchiest basslines . Everything within Fifteen0eight is collaborative, we never do any part of the creative process alone. A lot of why our music is successful in its sound is because of the of chemistry we have as friends. The studio is our sanctuary and Fifteen0eight is the truest projection of our friendship. We have so much fun creating this world for people to indulge in. We want people who discover us to feel as though they just became apart of something “bigger than the music.”

We do this particularly at our live shows. At all of our performances, the goal has always been to give the crowd an experience rather than a simple show. Using eerie, uncomfortable visuals, flashing dark-colored lights, instrumental interludes during random parts of the set – all of it is intentional and carefully crafted with the goal of leaving people wanting to know more. We’re nerds with the live show stuff, it’s our favorite thing to interact with a crowd.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best part of Los Angeles is the diversity!! It’s a different type of inspiration when everyone around you has their own unique culture and language. There are so many people and places to see you could never be bored here. Coming from Boston also, you gotta love the weather…
