Conversations with Pretty Brandao

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pretty Brandao.

Pretty Brandao

Pretty, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began after I finally overcame a ten-year addiction to fentanyl. During my addiction, I lost nearly everything, including my marriage to an incredible woman named Eilleen. Watching my life spiral out of control, I knew I needed a change. I sought help and committed to a ten-month rehab program that transformed my life.

With newfound sobriety, I returned to school to pursue further education. I then started working as a freelance group therapy facilitator, focusing on helping those battling addiction and mental health challenges. Additionally, I became a certified life coach, driven by a passion to guide others on their path to recovery and personal development. Rebuilding my own life has empowered me to support others in rebuilding theirs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like any journey that leads to something great, it didn’t happen overnight. It took immense dedication and determination to build a name for myself here in Los Angeles. I had to prove that I am a living testament to sobriety, and for me, it was deeply personal.

One of the biggest challenges was overcoming the stigma associated with my past addiction. I had to work twice as hard to gain trust and establish credibility in the community. There were moments of self-doubt and temptation, but each day, I reminded myself of how far I had come and why I chose this path.

Another struggle was balancing my personal recovery with helping others. It was essential to maintain my own well-being while being a source of support for those still in the grips of addiction. Despite these challenges, each obstacle reinforced my commitment to my mission, making every achievement even more meaningful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m passionate about my work as a group therapy facilitator and life coach, specializing in helping those struggling with addiction and mental health issues. What sets me apart is that this work is deeply personal to me. Having overcome a ten-year addiction to fentanyl and rebuilt my life from the ground up, I bring a unique perspective and empathy to my practice.

In my role, I focus on creating a supportive and understanding environment where individuals can share their experiences and find strength in their journey to recovery. I’m known for my dedication and determination to help others, drawing from my own experiences to guide and inspire them.

What I’m most proud of is finding my passion in this line of work. Each day, I witness the transformative power of recovery and personal growth, and it reaffirms my commitment to this path. Building a name for myself in Los Angeles wasn’t easy—it required proving myself as a living testament to the power of sobriety. This personal connection to my work, combined with my professional training and dedication, sets me apart and fuels my drive to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Absolutely. “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is a personal favorite, helping me maintain clarity and purpose. Another influential book is “The Myth of Normal” by Gabor Maté, which offers profound insights into mental health and healing.

I also use mindfulness apps like Headspace and Calm and enjoy podcasts such as “The Tim Ferriss Show” and “Unlocking Us” by Brené Brown. These resources support my personal growth and professional effectiveness.
