Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Foraker.
Hi Brett, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a multidisciplinary artist living in Los Angeles. I started as a painter and that practice still informs much of what I do in both filmmaking and photography. Lately, my work has played with the intersection of the real and digital worlds and the increasingly blurred lines between the two.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I know many artists and I can confidently say that none has had an entirely smooth road. One could almost argue that the greatest struggles produce the greatest artists. I’m fortunate in that I have several outlets for my work. The biggest struggle of late has been time. In order to execute all of the things in my head, I’d need a 36-hour day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
If anything, I’m known for a type of abstraction that borders on the surreal. I try to find processes that elevate everyday things into moments of wonderment. For the past few years, I’ve been engaged in a series called PunkFlora, which uses gestural photography to create painterly images from the digital artifacts of real life.
What matters most to you?
We live in a miraculous age, where we can visualize anything, we can imagine. My hope is that I can find a spiritual component within these rapidly evolving disciplines. The only useful thing we can do as artists is attempt to find new forms.
