Meet Marco Gutierrez of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marco Gutierrez

Hi Marco, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m from Puerto Vallarta, México and Since I was 14 years old, my life has been shaped by music. It all started with DJing, and by the age of 15, I delved into the world of music production. At 17, I decided to take a step forward and launch my own music project under the name “Marco Gutiland.” This project is a fusion of EDM with a strong Latin influence, both in the instruments I use and in the lyrics and visual aesthetics.

With “Marco Gutiland,” I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with prominent DJs from the Latin scene and building my own community of followers. However, my curiosity to explore beyond the creative process led me into the world of “Music Business.”

In 2021, I started my bachelor’s degree in Music Business in Mexico City, but I felt the need to broaden my horizons. With the conviction that Los Angeles is the world capital of music, I decided to move there to continue my education. It was in 2022 when I finally relocated to Los Angeles to pursue my career in the Music Business.

I’ve always wrestled with the decision to pursue my passion for music or delve into the business world. However, the opportunities that presented themselves and the continuous learning in the industry led me to lean more towards the business realm.

Now In my 21 years old, I work at Corson Agency, a booking agency where I specialize in Latin America, managing artists and events in this region. Additionally, in 2023, I founded my own record label, Maxaria Records, where I work on developing artists in the Latin realm. As I immersed myself further into this world, I always saw the issue of potential artists not transcending due to lack of knowledge and support. Maxaria fulfills this function. As for my project Marco Gutiland, it’s currently on pause; one never knows when the time will be right to resume.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I believe that when one pursues a goal, the path will always be challenging. I think something difficult is moving to another country, leaving behind family, friends, etc. But everything is balanced out by the outcome and focus one puts into the things one sets out to achieve.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I truly enjoy about my job is being able to contribute to the development of musical projects that have a lot to offer to the audience. Whether it’s organizing live events with the booking agency or meticulously planning music projects with my record label. However, beyond the qualities that others highlight in me (even my boss at the agency and close colleagues in the industry), what truly sets me apart is my ability to identify projects with great potential. Whether it’s due to their originality or some interesting element they can capitalize on.

As for my day-to-day activities, with the booking agency, I focus on scheduling dates, negotiating with promoters, and coordinating logistical aspects related to tours, among other responsibilities. Meanwhile, at the record label, I work on developing release schedules, marketing strategies, press outreach, and music distribution platforms, among other tasks.
