πΆ From Melbourne to LA: The Journey of SzilvaΒ
Meet Szilva, an independent artist and musical powerhouse hailing from Melbourne, Australia, now making waves in the heart of Los Angeles. Starting at age 8 when she found her calling on the stage in musical theater productions, often in principal roles. She wanted to be more involved in the creative side of music, which led her to write her first song, βSpider,β as a teenβa raw expression of her innermost thoughts.
Szilvaβs musical journey kicked into high gear as she founded the band, βMeshuganahβ, rocking stages across her hometown, Frankston, until catching the attention of a Los Angeles-based management company. It didnβt take long for her voice to be discovered on the airwaves hitting national radio. The future of living her dreams was looking good.
Never one to settle, Szilva dove headfirst into music production, βI really wanted to learn the technical side of everything that was going on inside my head.β Szilva wrote, recorded, and produced her debut self-titled album and made the move to the City of Angels to chase her dreams. Since she was that little girl on stage in theater productions, she always knew that the USA would be where she would live one day. Along the way, sheβs collaborated with top-notch talent like Platinum award-winning songwriter Chris Landon, creating hundreds of songs that span genres and continents.
Szilva represents the 2% of music producers in the music business who are female, making her a minority in her industry. But Szilvaβs music isnβt just about beats and melodiesβitβs a platform for change. She has also used her skills to causes close to her heart, from gender rights and human rights to wildlife preservation, using her art to raise awareness and inspire action.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“No matter what level of success, the music industry is a constant roller coaster ride of highs and lows, which is not uncommon in the entertainment industry as a whole. Once you learn to embrace the steps of struggles and challenges along the way, you appreciate that itβs not about the destination and βmaking it,β but itβs actually all about enjoying the journey β¦ and expecting and preparing for the perfect storm of disappointment and bliss. I feel like choosing the independent artist life was the right thing to do even though it hasnβt been easy, but Iβve never really had anyone ever tell me that this life is easy for them, and so itβs something I have always prepared for. It takes hard work to not get discouraged sometimes and 99% of creatives in the industry can agree that in order to survive, you just need to operate mind over matter and trust the process. Thatβs where I dig in and find my strength again, and I find it to be an empowering experience to overcome the resistance every artist faces.β
Szilva is an independent solo recording artist, songwriter, and producer. Many of her days are spent working from her home studio. Recently, she has worked on co-creating music for a film called βIF Homeless,β which just premiered at the Disneyland Hotel for the AnnualΒ O.C.Β Chefβs Table Gala. John Stamos presentedΒ the film andΒ $1.5 millionΒ dollarsΒ was raised for the Illumination Foundation in Orange County, CA. Szilva was also a producer on the film.
Her efforts havenβt gone unnoticed. βFighter,β one of her standout tracks, snagged the Silver Award at the Hollywood Gold Awards and earned nominations elsewhere. And with her music featured in films, TV shows, and commercials worldwide, Szilvaβs reach knows no bounds.
Szilva also added another notch to her belt, as the singing voice of Barbieβs little sister Stacie to the latest Barbie animated film βBarbie and Stacie to the Rescueβ.Β Β This movie can now be seen on NetflixΒ and youΒ can watch Mattelβs official movie trailer atΒ https://www.youtube.com/
But for Szilva, itβs never been about the glitz and glamourβitβs about making music that matters.
As she continues to write her story, Szilva reminds us that music is more than just entertainmentβitβs a force for change, a source of empowerment, and a universal language that connects us all.
“I feel an essence of true accomplishment as I have the opportunity to work, create, and contribute to some incredible organizations that are very necessary in this world. It fills my cup to know that the work I am helping to create is making a positive impact in many lives. I still remember writing my first song in my mid-teens, and I realized then that I wanted to be what other artists & bands meant to me.”
Are there any important lessons youβve learned that you can share with us?
“The number one lesson Iβve learned along my journey is to stay true to myself. If ever Iβve trailed off from my heart and soulβs desires and path at any stage of my life, itβs always taken me to a place of less-than-desirable circumstances. Life has a funny way of blessing us with positive situations and circumstances when we are living our lives in tune with our mission.
Patience is another gift that makes the journey more enjoyable along the way. At one point, it was definitely a challenge for me, but once I learned to embrace it, I have realized how necessary it is to light the path ahead.
Iβve also learned the importance of relationships and giving back to the community whenever possible. As an independent artist, I have a wonderful team and network of people. Although I know a lot of people, my community is tight, and I am surrounded by support, guidance, and love.”
