Today we’d like to introduce you to Xazmine.
Xazmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started at a performing arts school in Oakland, California, called Oakland School for the Arts. There, I grew and learned the basics of what it means to be not an artist but a musician. I went through a rigorous vocational program for 7 years straight because it was a charter school for the arts, which taught me all my knowledge as an adolescent.
I moved to LA to study music business at Musicians Institute because regular school was NOT my path. I ended up leaving MI 2 years after landing a job at Mantra Publishing as head of the A&R department under CEO Julius Darrington and Cosmo Barron.
As of April 2024, I am now pursuing my artistry as a singer/songwriter on top of my other endeavors. It is my goal to pursue my dreams and learn the business at the same time. This has become a safe way for me to thrive as an artist and go about all my experiences with awareness in the music industry. Mantra Publishing and Audio Dream Records has become a safe place and a home for me to come to for anything associated with my career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. I’ve dealt with stolen music, sexual harassment, sexism, and constant belittling from other executives above me. Although I do have a talent, there is talent everywhere. The main struggle is finding out where you stand out. What is your niche? What makes you pop? All those questions we think we know until it gets put to the test. My biggest struggle was finding out what made me pop. I realized it was my voice. My training was so advanced that anytime I sang anything it always seemed to impress anybody that was listening. My choice of melodies when I write music are always very against odds so other musicians tend to notice. My songwriting ability is very different from most, as much as others could still relate to it. After years passed, I realized, my niche is my voice.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional singer who is also a songwriter for other talent. I am known as the girl who jumped into city of LA and took absolute control. I became a part of multiple elite writing camps, which developed amazing projects in the end.
I was a part of reality TV in 2023 called “Lovers and Liars, which is now airing on the CW, YouTube TV, and HULU LIVE!
I performed for the co-owner of the Lakers, Johnny Buss, New Years Party as a headliner at the Ice House in Pasadena along a plethora of other endeavors prior and post.
My most proud moment was my UFC fight performance. I sang the national anthem for a UFC fight in Orlando, Florida, and I had the most amazing experience on that stage than I’ve ever had on any stage.
What sets me apart is my history and my ethnicity. Where I come from, my ancestors, and my mindset. I am a 24-year-old Palestinian, Nigerian, and Egyptian woman coming from a single-mom household based out of the Bay Area, now blossoming in the city of Los Angeles. My ability to network and cultivate relationships is impeccable. My determination when it comes to scouting talent has gotten so rapid I can’t even keep up with myself sometimes.
My ear for music is truly my biggest strength. It either makes sense, or it doesn’t. The end.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Music makes me happy. People make me happy. But I truly become happy when I know I’ve inspired the next person to be great. When I have sparked someone new to me to explore something new that they never would have imagined. That is what makes me most happy. When people see and acknowledge my hard work,
What makes the most happy is when I’m recording, and god is channeling his spirt through me. In those moments, the songs come out like magic. No effort, no pressure or tension. Just pure and organic.
