Today we’d like to introduce you to Nat Nunez.
Hi Nat, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Born in Colombia and raised in Chile, I’ve been always involved in diverse musical culture. I started playing guitar when I was 10 (and haven’t stopped ever since) but came across electronic music when I was 15. Ever since I heard Oliver Helden’s “Gecko,” I knew that 4 on the floor rhythm was the drive and feeling I was looking for so long. After listening for a while, in 2019 I took the decision of learning how to produce, not really knowing what I was doing. After a couple of years of trial and error, in 2021, I decided to dedicate myself fully to music, move to Los Angeles, and study music production at ICON Collective. Ever since I stepped on that building, my perspective about music shifted completely. I started experimenting with genres that I always wanted to do, but never had the confidence to produce. After 2 years of being fully inspired by all my creations and completely shifting the meaning of electronic music in the Latin culture, I’ve achieved a sound that is by far the most unique combination between all my musical influences from when I was a child, and all the electronic music that I love experimenting with.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say that the biggest struggle I had was leaving all that I had in Chile so I could pursue my dream here in LA. Being an international student here, is something that has taught me so many things, but the biggest one is perseverance. It’s really hard to move away from home, where everything you’ve always known is, to a whole different country, culture, and social environment. I feel like we artists usually create based of personal experiences or feelings, and even though it’s been not the easiest road to walk, I’m extremely grateful for every experience I’ve had since I came here. Thanks to all these obstacles, I became able to create such a powerful and personal musical experience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Latina EDM/Pop artist. I love to make all kinds of mixes between my Latin culture from back home and bring all the experimental electronic side to it. Most of my songs are the sonic translation of situations I’ve lived, and I wanted to frame in something special that I can share with people who might feel the same way so they know they’re not alone. I’m really proud of being one of the only Latin female artists that’s doing something beyond the traditional urban music that everyone thinks of when you mention you’re from there. Being able to produce, write, sing, and do everything in my music project is something that I’ve mastered through the years, and it allows me to have full freedom in terms of how and what I want to express through not only the music but all my concept as an artist.
Any big plans?
My future plans revolve around going back to South America with my new and unique musical proposal and re-inventing what people are used to listening to over there. I’ve also been working with some artists from different Latin countries, everyone with a unique proposal that I’ve been able to contribute on. Some of the people I’ve had the honor to work with are influenced by Latin pop from Mexico, like “Paulé,” and some of the other people are from back home and influenced by Latin RnB, like “Paloma Libano.” As for now and for the future, I love producing and would really enjoy working with other people from the Latin world who have something that stands out from the masses and experiment on all genres.
