Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Santia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Santia.

Lauren Santia

Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I actually started a career in music by applying for a music journalism internship during the COVID lockdown. I had just quit a career in ballet and was bored and ready to try something new. After the internship ended, I realized I loved working in the music industry. Something about sharing the stories of so many talented artists felt so special to me. I ended up exploring a multitude of lanes within the field, including A&R, marketing, journalism, PR, and more. Now, four years later, I’m proud to say that I found my happy place as a music journalist and a publicist. After being a press manager at a well-respected publicity agency for a year, I decided to go freelance and start a PR company of my own. It’s been an absolute dream so far!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. I spent the first 20 years of my life thinking I was going to be a ballerina. I missed out on school, finding other passions, friendships, and more by spending so many hours in the studio and traveling. Quitting and entering an entirely new field gave me the biggest identity crisis of my life. It was also a struggle trying to figure out which area of music I wanted to be in. I jumped around so much in the beginning that I felt like a deer stuck in headlights for the longest time. Starting my own brand and going freelance was also a humbling experience because I felt as though I was learning everything by myself. I went from having a team with me in the office and bosses/mentors to guide me to becoming my own boss. It’s still trial and error at times, but I’m continuously learning and growing.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently working as a music journalist and publicist. I find so much joy and fulfillment in helping artists share their music and stories. On top of that, I’m also a Lagree fitness instructor and teach classes at studios all throughout LA! As an ex-ballerina, I love movement and want to show others that movement is a privilege and can be so much fun! I want to help people focus on working out to feel strong instead of looking a certain way.

What’s next?
I have no idea where I’ll be in the future. I’m just going with the flow and seeing where life takes me!
