Daily Inspiration: Meet Sruthi Jayadevan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sruthi Jayadevan.

Sruthi Jayadevan

Hi Sruthi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town in Kerala, India. At the age of 11, my family and I made a move to the U.S. It was a really tough time transitioning to a whole new country at a very pivotal age in my life. I barely spoke English and was a very shy and introverted kid. I loved my life back home, but I felt like I had to really give everything up that reminded me of home to adjust to my new life and fit in with new people.

I went to high school and college in Texas, where I spent most of my time preparing myself for a career in medicine. I wasn’t sure if this was my own dream or if it felt like the only choice presented to me at that time. I was a biology and business major, but towards the end of college, I realized that I wanted to take a gap year to really figure out what I wanted to do with my life that wasn’t based on expectations from others, my community, or society.

That’s the year I started sharing my love for fashion, especially Indian and Indowestern fashion on social media. So many people resonated with the content and commentary I was sharing. I started reconnecting with my heritage and my roots through fashion, beauty, wellness, etc. As time went by, a lot of things I wanted to push away or hide as a young person actually became the things I was most proud of.

My journey has taught me the power of embracing one’s true passions in live, and I am committed to inspiring others on their path to reconnecting with their passions and finding their authentic selves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am very grateful for where I am currently in my life and the beautiful path that led me here. However, it wouldn’t be right to say that it was only filled with beauty and that I didn’t face any challenges.

There were plenty of challenges along the way. I felt like I was disappointing myself, my family, and my community when I stepped away from pursuing medicine to pursue my life as a creative. I felt really lonely through many aspects of that journey, but I’m very lucky to have had loved ones and my online community support me through all the highs and lows.

I really had to believe in myself and my dreams and vision regardless of what others thought. Today, I look back at all those struggles and thank the universe for the good and the bad. Without that, this journey wouldn’t be nearly as fulfilling.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been a full-time content creator for about 5 years now! I started off sharing my love of fashion, but over time, I’ve focused less on specific content niches and focused more on my values in life. I share content around clean, cruelty-free beauty, ayurvedic wellness practices, sustainable fashion and overall conscious and mindful living.

I am most proud of the fact that I stay true and authentic to myself no matter what I share with the world. The content I share is all based on my real-life experiences, values, and philosophies. I hope to continue sharing my life in a way that inspires and encourages others to live a mindful life while focusing on their overall well-being and the well-being of the planet.
