Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Stone.
Hi Tanya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
10 years ago, my daughter’s nursery unexpectedly ignited my passion for interior design. However, my early steps in this new world were met with skepticism and even ridicule. And even years later, despite my proven capabilities, industry folks seek to discredit my efforts for their own gain.
Yet, amid the doubters and naysayers, I persisted. I refused to let their negativity deter me from pursuing my dreams. Instead, I turned their skepticism into fuel for my determination.
I dove headfirst into learning the intricacies of interior design, immersing myself in every aspect of the craft. Late nights were spent poring over design books, mastering software programs, and honing my skills. There were moments of frustration and doubt, but I persevered, driven by a relentless desire to prove myself and provide for my family.
My dedication began to pay off. Slowly but surely, I started to gain recognition for my work. With each success, the voices of those who had doubted me grew fainter, drowned out by the sound of my own achievements.
Looking back now, I realize that the true essence of success lies not just in talent or luck but in the willingness to put in the hard work and perseverance. In an era where instant gratification often takes precedence, the lost art of good old-fashioned hard work is more valuable than ever.
I now embrace the grind and let my determination be my driving force. Because in the end, it’s the sweat, the tears, and the countless hours of dedication that pave the way. And while I still have a long way to go, I am so happy to be on this path.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! I think I answered those questions in the first post.
But there were so many times that I almost quit. Accepted defeat but deep down inside I knew this is where I am meant to be. And therefore, each project, big or small, photograph-worthy or not, holds such a special place in my heart. Every experience is growth, and every challenge is a lesson.
Happy to be done with the lessons, 🤣 but I get a feeling that they will never end.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an interior designer specializing in renovations, new builds, and designing custom bespoke furniture. I organically marry both function and beauty in a practical and thoughtful way. My strength lies in balancing proportions and incorporating the new and old in design to complement each other effortlessly.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to authentically be yourself. In this business, where there are so many talented people, what will set you apart is your personality. Interior design and working with paying clients are truly like dating; it has to make sense. Be open to learning and doing the hard work no one wants to do. That is the way to move forward.
