Daily Inspiration: Meet Sky Guerra Cohen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sky Guerra Cohen.

Hi Sky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began in a small town in North Brazil, where I was given the unique name Celimar, meaning “Sky and Sea.” Growing up, I transitioned to being called Ceu, a simplified version of my name. Upon moving to the United States, I adopted the name Sky to make it easier for others to pronounce. My upbringing was humble, with limited access to modern amenities, relying on natural remedies until I moved to Goiania at the age of 12. 

In 2019, I made the significant move to Los Angeles and commenced working for a Brazilian designer. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 brought about unexpected changes, including moving in with my boyfriend and now husband and navigating a simple yet memorable wedding ceremony with only four guests. Meeting my husband through a dating app added a touch of modern case to our love story. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Despite the challenges posed by relocating to a new country, away from family, and striving for professional growth while awaiting my green card approval, my husband’s unwavering support has been instrumental. Determined to carve a new career path, I decided to pursue studies in esthetics and permanent makeup artistry. Overcoming language barriers, especially in mastering complex anatomical terms during my schooling, presented a formidable obstacle. However, the empathy and encouragement from my classmates, friends, and instructors propelled me towards completing my program successfully. 

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Transitioning from a background in fashion design, with experiences in cities like São Paulo, London, and Rome, I found my calling in the beauty industry. Specializing in lip blush as a permanent makeup artist, I offer clients exclusive pigment selections and techniques inspired by my Brazilian heritage. Designed to enhance your lips’ natural tone and promote a youthful appearance. Becoming a licensed esthetician and lip blush artist has transformed my passion into a vocation, allowing me to empower individuals on their beauty journey and instill confidence through enhancing their natural features. I consider myself fortunate to bring joy and self-assurance to others through my craft. Establishing professional connections within the industry to exchange experiences can be highly beneficial. Recently, I have forged a partnership with Allure Hues, and I am impressed by the team’s strong dedication and passion for their work. 

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I have an affinity for the warm summers, and California’s climate is amongst the finest. Los Angeles, in particular, is a city that encourages a healthy lifestyle and a leisurely approach to each day, which I find truly enjoyable. However, being distanced from my family, especially my mother, is a notable aspect that I find challenging.
