Meet Daniele Bolelli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniele Bolelli.

Daniele Bolelli

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Italy until I turned 18 years old. I moved to California and have lived here for the past 32 years. Both my father and mother were writers, so it was little surprise when I started publishing books. But making a living writing is not the easiest thing, so I also began teaching history in college. One thing led to another, and I ended up hosting History on Fire, one of the biggest history podcasts in the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In any creative field, there are plenty of failures for any success. I’m lucky enough to have had some big successes, but I’ve definitely struggled along the way. And I still struggle to this day being able to bring certain projects to light.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Whether it’s writing books, screenplays, or podcasts, at the heart of what I do is storytelling. Despite having some decent success with a few books, the luckiest break I’ve had has been in podcasting. Often, history is told in a tedious way that is not very appealing to the general public. I pride myself of being able to present history in an entertaining way without sacrificing accuracy.

What matters most to you? Why?
I recently found a note that my father wrote for me when I turned ten. He mentioned how none of his work mattered even a fraction compared to having me as a son. I feel the same way about my loved ones. I love writing and creating, but it doesn’t compare in importance to being there for them.
