Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Lewis.
Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, I’ve been doing musical theater since I was a kid, so when I turned 18, I did the sensible thing… skipped college, got a job at the Sherman Oaks Apple Store, and took improv classes. That all sort of got me creating dumb songs on YouTube, which eventually led me to meet my writing partner Keith Habersberger in 2014 when we started our comedy band Lewberger. In 2016, we added Hughie Stone Fish to the mix and have toured the country, played a bunch of festivals, and had a sold-out off-Broadway show last year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s definitely been bumps in the road. Covid was definitely a huge one. We booked 40 college gigs in February 2020, and by the end of April, those were reduced to 6 virtual shows among the obvious covid sized problem the rest of the world went through. There’s also been the classic Hollywood heartaches and rejections that come to anyone with dreams of showbiz. We’ve overcome a lot of that by figuring out how to generate our own content and touring on our own.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an actor/writer and I specialize in comedy music I’d say and I’m most known for being in Lewberger my comedy band. I’m most proud of our sold out off Broadway run of The Wizard of Friendship. As far as comedy music goes, I think what sets us apart is how musical theater we are.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Standard 90s nerd. I watched a lot of Simpsons and Seinfeld and was a huge theater kid (I’m sorry). I grew up in La so I silently was jealous of all my child actor friends cause my parents wouldn’t let me do it. I played a lot of Goldeneye though.
