Check Out Daniella Newman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniella Newman.

Daniella Newman

Daniella, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My professional journey is more than just a journey through medical school and residency. It’s a continuation of a family legacy that began with my grandfather’s arrival in this country 40 years ago. As a young child, I would visit the medical practices of my father and grandfather after school. I would be given matching scrubs and the opportunity to help with various tasks. My grandfather, Dr. Samuel Newman, embodies a story of remarkable determination. Arriving in the United States in his mid-50s with no knowledge of English, his unwavering passion for medicine drove him to quickly learn the language, pass the requisite exams, and redo his residency. His journey from starting anew in a foreign land to establishing himself in the medical community is a testament to what passion and grit can achieve.

This legacy of perseverance and love of patient care has been a guiding light in my own path. As a teenager growing up, I noticed that many of my friends doing LASERs for acne or hair removal could not be done on people of my skin tone. This inspired me to become a LASER expert and look for solutions for people with ethnic skin. Today at Newman Dermatology, we are known for our multimodal approach to treating ethnic skin using LASERs and other modalities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say there have been two major struggles in my professional career. One being imposter syndrome. Despite the years of school, training, and tangible evidence of my success, I would sometimes find myself doubting my abilities and accomplishments. Overcoming this meant learning to trust in my training, experience, and the very real results of my work. I am lucky to have the best patients.

My second major hurdle was embracing creativity in my treatment plans. The conventional path can sometimes lean on oral medications, which can be undesirable to patients due to harmful side effects. However, my belief in a more holistic and individualized approach propelled me to explore combinations of topical medications, LASERS, and lifestyle modifications as primary treatments. This approach required me to form our own protocols and trust in my judgment. It was a challenge to move away from the more traditional methods. Now, after being in practice for over 3 years, I realize that that is one of the reasons why my patients come to see me. For that approach!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m deeply passionate about my job. In an era where many are living for the weekend, I look forward to my Monday mornings. I work at Newman Dermatology in Beverly Hills, California, with my father, Dr. Armand Newman, and my sister, Dr. Gabriella Newman. The three of us are members of the International Society of Dermatology and have focused our practice on individualized care for patients of different skin colors. We specialize in LASER therapy for acne, discoloration, and rejuvenation for different skin colors. Our practice is not just about treating skin conditions—it’s about restoring confidence and enhancing well-being. At the heart of our approach is the belief that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. This philosophy has guided us to offer a wide array of treatments, including an extensive range of LASER therapies, which enables us to precisely address various skin concerns in all skin colors. Whether it’s acne, discoloration, or rejuvenation, we create a solution while taking into consideration each patient’s desire for downtime, budget, and overall goals in mind. There is no greater feeling than getting a message from one of my patients telling me how my treatment changed their life and gave them their confidence back.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality I feel is most important to my success is getting to know my patients. We are not a factory where we see give everyone the same medication and have a 3-minute office visit. I want to know what is important to my patients—is it texture? Is it redness? Is it the brown pigmentation? Is there a graduation or wedding we are trying to get ready for? This helps me create a treatment plan that will maximally benefit my patients. Knowing these details, I can plan in advance for downtime, set realistic expectations, and get them ready for events that really are once in a lifetime.
