Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Lopez.
Hi Mason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always felt passionate about makeup and empowering others to feel comfortable in their own skin. My journey into the makeup industry began with doing makeup for friends, from sleepovers to proms. It naturally evolved over time as I realized my passion for makeup and its transformative power. Today, I run my own business, striving to make my clients feel like walking pieces of art by embracing their natural features and uniqueness.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, as there have been challenges along the way. Being a single mother while dealing with my own mental health struggles added layers of difficulty that tested my resilience. Despite these hardships, my strong work ethic has been my guiding light. Learning to prioritize and say no to overbooking has been a valuable lesson, especially in the midst of managing my well-being. The joy of pursuing a creative career and bringing happiness to others has made every challenge worthwhile.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist based in Fresno, California.
I began working as a makeup artist for special events, fashion shows, editorial and commercial in 2013.
At the end of 2020, I started my bridal business. My love for enhancing my clients’ natural beauty has been constant, and now I focus that passion on bridal glam. My bridal business earned the title of ‘Best Makeup Artist-Kings County, California’ in both 2022 and 2023.
I’m so proud of my bridal business, but I have to say, I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in my makeup career. It all started in a humble kitchen, where I “booked” appointments for my school friends. A few years ago, I vividly remember journaling about envisioning an early morning start in Santa Barbara for a bridal party makeup. One early morning, it hit me—I was living my dream as I was driving down PCH. That realization fills me with immense pride and gratitude for the journey I’ve been on.
Any big plans?
There’s a huge change around the corner. I am thrilled to announce that I will be moving to Washington, DC, this summer, where I’ll be starting from the ground up on the East Coast. This new adventure excites me, and I’m eager to embrace the opportunities it brings, although I must admit, I’m a little nervous, too. Despite the move, I will continue to serve my California clients, as the bond with California remains strong. You can take the girl out of California, but she’s always going to come home.
