Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Champ Robinson.

Brandon Champ Robinson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started with a love for entertaining and making people in my family laugh. Growing up, I was always a goofball and could get anyone to laugh. Even though I would entertain my people, I never thought I would want to be on TV or anything like that.

One day at my grandfather’s house, I went upstairs and stumbled upon my Uncle Terry’s studio. Uncle Terry was a producer. He decided he would show me how to use the equipment. Little did I know that would be my origin story in entertainment.

I knew I would be a producer/rapper, which I was both for a bit, but in 8th grade, I had my first video production class. A new love has entered the chat!

From there, I started to make music videos for myself and my friends in high school. Then, I began adding storylines and acting to these music videos. As I progressed, music started to get pushed to the background, and my focus became clear. I wanted to make movies.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“When has the road ever been smooth?” Let’s be real. Back home in Wisconsin, I quickly realized that I would never reach my desired destination if I stayed there. So, my wife and I made a plan and moved to California. On the day of our move, it was my first time ever stepping foot in the state. As we had no family or friends to lean on, I had to build all my connections from scratch. As you know, it’s not about what you know but who you know, and thus, it was quite a bumpy road.

Though I’ve made significant progress in my career, I still feel like I have to prove myself to land the next gig. But I’m creating, landing gigs, and building a better network.

As you know, we’re big fans of Imagination Upgraded. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I realized that for a while, I had not given my company a clear direction. I was taking on various gigs randomly, without a clear purpose and focus. I believe that this approach was not helpful for my company, as it made us seem like a freelance business rather than a brand and a company. But now, I have a clear focus.

Imagination Upgraded is a full-service independent movie studio. We develop and create films in-house, and we also offer production support for other productions and brands, such as music videos, commercials, marketing, film, and TV.

At Imagination Upgraded, our top core value is to support the creators. We understand that creativity often takes a backseat when metrics are prioritized. Therefore, we aim to change that by finding a balance between the two, allowing the creator to maintain their creative integrity.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the access to everything that California offers. You can get to any place and meet anyone just by hanging out in the right places and meeting the right people. However, what I like least about the city is the high cost of living, congestion, and traffic. That’s why I live a little further out from the city and drive down when I need to
