Today we’d like to introduce you to Nora Jaenicke.
Hi Nora, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a filmmaker who grew up in Italy with German parents. I then studied at the European Institute of Design and the Vancouver Film School. I worked in various independent film productions as a set designer in Los Angeles before writing and directing my own short films. I’m currently in post-production of my first feature film starring Joanna Kulig and Fanny Ardant, a psychological thriller set on the Italian island of Elba, where I also founded and organized a Film Festival, the Elba Film Festival. In 2018, I founded Nostos Screenwriting Retreats, a script development Lab based in Tuscany.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After working in the corporate world as a Business Development Manager for an advertising agency in NYC a little over three years, I realized I wasn’t cut out to work in this field and felt the strong urge to get back to telling my stories. Juggling different freelance gigs while producing my own short films and starting the writing lab and the festival has been a challenge, but I always felt it was worth it because, ultimately, I was doing what I loved while also supporting other creators.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a freelance filmmaker and writer. I also founded the Elba Film Festival and the Nostos Screenwriting Retreat in Italy.
How do you define success?
Feeling fulfilled and inspired.
