Conversations with Negar Tafreshi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Negar Tafreshi.

Negar Tafreshi

Hi Negar, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Negar Tafreshi, and I am a full-time artist, fashion designer, and nature lover. I moved across the world when I was 11 and landed in Los Angeles. My artistic journey began with a childhood love for art and designing clothes for my Barbies. It was also a great place for me to escape to my imagination. I dealt with a lot of transition and change in my youth, and my art was a great way for me to express myself. After high school, I pursued my passion at FIDM, graduating with honors and having my final project published.

Post-college, I interned with various designers and worked for a licensed Disney apparel company. Despite a successful career, my dream was to have my own brand and create evening gowns. One day, I decided to take a leap, leaving my job to follow my passion. It was not easy, of course. Working night and day in my family garage, I started gaining attention on social media, leading to collaborations with notable industry professionals.

Today, my clientele seeks unique, custom-made pieces for red-carpet moments and weddings. Beyond fashion, my artistic endeavors extend to paintings and mixed media arts. I’ve dressed celebrities at major events like the Oscars and Emmys. I’ve had my gowns featured in major tabloids and publications, and I’ve designed art and campaigns for a variety of successful musical artists and videos. I’ve also had paintings featured in major global media and social campaigns. I am grateful to be a full-time artist and designer, living my dream.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. You face challenges like all entrepreneurs. While pursuing my dream, leaving a secure job posed financial challenges and risks, obviously. Starting in my dad’s garage meant limited resources and hot afternoons lol. Balancing the demands of design, production, and self-promotion was definitely difficult at times. Yet, these challenges fueled my determination, pushing me to overcome and arrive to where I am today. I’m grateful for all of it. Coming from a humble beginning forced me to think outside the box and be resourceful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full-time artist and fashion designer specializing in creating unique evening gowns and dresses. Creating for a clientele seeking exclusive, custom-made pieces for red-carpet appearances and other events.

What sets me apart is my commitment to crafting one-of-a-kind designs tailored to my client’s vision. I take pride in the individuality of each piece, always wanting to make sure my clients stand out at their events. Beyond fashion, my art extends to my other passions, including paintings and mixed media arts. I’ve always loved adding a distinctive touch to my creative portfolio. I don’t believe in labeling one’s self or limiting what you can create. My passion for art and creation doesn’t have any boundaries. My mind is always running!

I have a collection that was made in tandem with SHEIN that is scheduled to launch in Spring 2024. It was a great honor for me to work with such a recognized brand, and I’m excited to be able to deliver more accessible pieces for my followers!

How do you define success?
For me, success is defined by the ability to do what I love and having the time and opportunity to create. Being a free spirit and pursuing my passion for art and design is the true essence of success. I believe that when you do what you love and you focus on bringing a vision to life, the financial rewards naturally follow!
