Conversations with Jessica Eldredge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Eldredge.

Jessica Eldredge

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a hair stylist in Pasadena. I started hair very randomly through my mom actually. I was looking to do more wedding makeup as I loved playing around with beauty products growing up, but my mom strongly opposed it. She thought if I had to choose a creative field in the beauty industry, hair would suit me more. Almost ten years later, I’m in love with the craft of being a hairstylist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Mmmmmm, I’m not sure if I would say it was smooth. But that doesn’t mean it was a road road either. I think everyone goes through patches of trials that make you question your purpose in your career path. I definitely was no exception. I think because I had great people to mentor me along the way, my journey has been smoother than most, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love hair. Just anything hair. Above everything I love cutting hair and styling hair. I think cutting hair is like sculpting on a live canvas. I see a block, and I see the desired end shape.

The hair has different textures and grains, much like the different medians of sculpting, and I love drawing out a blueprint of the steps I want to take in cutting my client’s hair to get that end look.

I think I definitely get new clients for my bob haircuts mostly. My thing is also weddings. I love that I can see someone happy by bringing their wedding vision to life.

What are your plans for the future?
I always loved education. I’m not quite sure what that looks like in the future, but I would ideally like to forward all the knowledge I’ve acquired from amazing stylists around me to the younger generation of stylists who have similar interests.

I think the next step is to push my wedding work forward and expand more this year.

As I also happen to be a florist and work in weddings for that purpose as well, I think it’d be great to offer some form of service for hair and florals together for not only weddings but events as well.
