Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Bernal.
Hi Bianca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began Two Four Six Studio as a side project, allowing me to pursue other ideas I couldn’t explore while working as a fashion designer in the industry. When COVID hit, the company I designed for had to shut down, and I was laid off. During this time, I took a much-needed year-long break; after that, I decided to fully dedicate myself to TFSS, and this is where I am today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m still navigating this path. It’s neither smooth nor rough; it just is. Daily, there’s something new to overcome or a problem to solve—some more fun, challenging, or physically exhausting. I believe it’s not much different from anyone building something from the ground up. I like to compare this whole journey to the actual work that I do.
Whether it’s a ceramic piece or a new shirt, every start involves figuring out the beginning, the construction, and executing it, which is always challenging. I often question my decisions and contemplate starting anew, but I remind myself to finish and move on. In the end, it always turns out the way I intended, if not better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a fashion designer and ceramist. I incorporate secondhand garments and found materials into my design and sewing process for new collections. Additionally, I mainly use reclaimed clay to craft new ceramic pieces. However, I’m mostly recognized for my upcycled men’s button-down shirts.
Rather than aiming to set myself apart, one of the most rewarding aspects of my work is being part of a unique community. I enjoy getting to know those who resonate with my creations and appreciate the pieces I bring to life.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have so many! Those who know me often hear me talk about my childhood. I spent my early years in Pampanga, Philippines, surrounded by raw nature—rice fields and fishponds. Play and exploration were highly encouraged by my family, who were also artistic and creative.
I often find myself tapping into those memories when creating something new.
