Today we’d like to introduce you to Kreative Nativez. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Comprising childhood friends Dj Blocks (John Mutale Nshimbi) and Tryybo (Jacob Kapaka Sinyangwe), a duo of Producers / Djs from from Lusaka in Zambia, joined their talents in the beginning of 2017 and have since made a bomb out of it. With a love for House Music but am mostly influenced by Afrohouse, Afrotech, Deep House as well as Retro Soulful & Melodic house music.
In the short lifespan of their careers as producer / deejay’s Kreative Nativez have befriended, learnt from, evolved & played alongside some of Zambia’s established DJs and some of House Music’s biggest acts in Djing.
After much patience, practice, and nurturing, Kreative Nativez felt that they had reached a certain level of maturity in their music production & it was time for the masses to hear their interpretation of House music. The Nativez are currently independent & continue to release music on various international labels such as Deep Root Records, My Otherside Of The Moon, Claps Records, Open Bar Music, Xpressed Records, Madorasindahouse Records, Sneja Recordings & more.
The Nativez Sound has a distinct feel to it, the structure of the tracks driven by percussion & melodies that pierce the listener right to the core. The arpeggio played on the electric piano is usually the synthesis of their compositions on which they build other elements, including distinct bass lines. It is evident that the Kreative Nativez have mastered their craft and are etching the name as maestros of their sound.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, as House Music isn’t a popular or commercial music genre in our country. Being producers & DJs of something unpopular has meant it’s tougher to find and connect with fans; we have had to build our own small fan base bit by bit over time in the last few years. Few people get and understand what who we are, what we do, and we are about. Had a break-in at our studio some time back and we lost our studio laptop and a few other valuables, such as a hard drive with many unreleased and pending projects, so we had to raise money to acquire some gear and equipment again to start all over from scratch. Tough times!!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We both have full-time Jobs, 8am – 5pm every day. We both do Sales for two difference companies. One is in the Banking sector, and the other is in the Hospitality sector. We both do the music and entertainment part-time for now.
We are known for producing and playing some groovy melodic Afrohouse music, mostly playing sundowner sets or curtain raiser sets for Headline Acts. Our signature sound in our production is known by the distinct bass lines, and the arpeggio played on the electric piano is usually the synthesis of our compositions.
How do you think about happiness?
Playing & Listening to House Music its simply Blissful; it evokes a great feeling of Love, Peace & Happiness, a sense of belonging; it truly is Feel Good Music.
