Daily Inspiration: Meet Hailey Wild

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailey Wild. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Hailey Wild

Using her powerful voice on and off stage, Hailey Wild explores themes of love, loss, and social strife through her music and songwriting. Her passion began at a young age, writing her first songs when she was ten years old – at 17, she made her official debut with her self-produced single “Long Time”. Hailey is an experienced vocalist and multi-instrumentalist having played over 170 live shows. Influenced by the likes of Lady Gaga, Joan Jett, and Lana Del Rey, Hailey seamlessly blends rock, pop, R&B, and jazz to create a sound that’s her own. She is currently studying Popular Music Performance at the acclaimed Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. Hailey is a San Diego native currently based in Los Angeles.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In some ways yes, in some ways no. I believe I’ve finally found my own sound and myself after years of experimenting in different genres. I feel at home in the alt-rock space because it allows me to talk about topics that may be harder to broach in other genres such as the unfairness women face in the industry and the anger that causes. Rock allows me to be more aggressive in my approach to writing and performing on stage and I love that. It’s a great outlet.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter, artist, and composer for film. I mostly specialize in alt-rock for my own artist project, but I’ve worked in R&B, hip-hop, and pop. I’m known for my high-energy performances, big vocals, and writing that isn’t afraid to push the envelope on difficult topics. That combination sets me apart from my peers.

I’m really proud of my latest single, ‘Wake Up’. The song was inspired by the gatekeeping that goes on in the entertainment industry. Oftentimes those who promise success and connections are only offering those things in exchange for fulfilling their own desires. I wanted to tell a very common story that unfortunately still happens, where young artists’ ambitions are taken advantage of by ‘gatekeepers’. In reality, those people who claim to have the keys to what you need to succeed usually have little to offer in the first place. This dynamic is common and I’ve unfortunately seen what getting involved with these types of people can do to a young person trying to find their way in the music business. I co-produced the song with my friend Grayson Pollard and I’m really happy with the outcome.

What does success mean to you?
I define success by if you’re happy and satisfied by what you do. This is different for everyone. For me, it’s not defined by money or fame. I would love to be known for what I do and be able to support myself off of it, but I’ve always had a passion for music because I love it, and it brings me joy.
