Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Kaylee.

Jessica Kaylee

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a love for performing and storytelling. By the time I was in college I had performed in over 50 theatrical productions ranging from local community plays to school plays. After graduating from the University of Washington with a double degree in Musical Theater and Drama performance I decided to move to LA to pursue a career in film and television. With auditions coming in few and far between during the pandemic I was feeling creatively unfilled and decided to give social media a try. Many friends had encouraged me to try it in the past, but it wasn’t until a friend showed me a “POV” style video that then I really listened. I remember thinking, “Those are cool, I want to try that”. The thought of being able to create multi-part stories really inspired me. This was in the fall of 2021. I recently had my two-year anniversary since posting my first POV. With now a total of 10 Million followers across all platforms, I cannot believe how far I have come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many obstacles to overcome during this journey. But it has helped me learn a lot about myself and give me thicker skin. In the beginning, I would spend a lot of time reading comments and taking things to heart. But after a while, I noticed how much it was impacting me in a negative way. Now, I limit my time reading comments and only respond to positive ones.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full-time content creator and am still actively pursuing a career in acting. Being self-employed has helped me have a flexible schedule so I can go on auditions every week. It has also given me more time to write my own short films. Making POVs every week has really strengthened my writing and video editing skills as well. I am really proud of how much I’ve learned in such a short period of time.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
If there’s something you absolutely love and lights something inside of you, do it. And don’t give up on it.
