Rising Stars: Meet Julianna Joy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianna Joy.

Julianna Joy

Hi Julianna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started writing music when I was 11 years old, shortly after seeing Taylor Swift at the Red Tour in Chicago, Illinois. She was the most amazing performance I’d ever seen, and I wanted to do exactly what she was doing. I started taking it really seriously when I was 14 and got accepted into Grammy Camp when I was 15 the following year. I started professionally recording music when I was 16 and was doing the beautiful balancing act of trying to finish high school and recording an EP at a professional level. I ended up moving to LA in February of 2020 and offered a publishing deal with Hipgnosis Song Group (fka Big Deal Music) in the same week as I moved. I’ve released two EPs so far and am currently mid the release cycle on a third!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was and has not been smooth by any means. I won’t deny that I got really lucky and I got a lot of opportunities that most people don’t get; for that, I will always be incredibly grateful. I’ve always struggled really bad mental health issues, so I find that that gets in my way more than anything.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist and songwriter. I want to be known for writing really good pop songs. I think the music I create is a really good balance between tons of genres of music. I refer to it as makeshift pop. Lyricism is my main focus when I’m writing; it’s one of the only ways I actually ever say what I want to say.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
All of my socials are @juliannajoy69, and I’m on all streaming platforms as Julianna Joy.
