Meet Lukas Hasler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lukas Hasler.

Lukas Hasler

Hi Lukas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started playing the organ when I was ten years old. I was fascinated by the incredible and tonal flexibility of the instrument and so I switched from piano to organ. At the beginning, I still had private tutors before I switched to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria where I started studying at the age of 16. Then studied in Austria, Germany, and France and have been in LA for two months now.

I’m also very active on Social Media, like Facebook and Instagram. Social media offers many opportunities to make the organ more present, especially for young people. I use these channels because it allows me to better connect with my audience and take people with me on my travels around the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say a lot of things in my life came very naturally. But as the saying goes, no pain, no gain. My motto is always “be flexible”, which means I was able to take advantage of many of the opportunities that were offered to me. The most exhausting thing for me is the time difference between the concerts when touring. Quite often, you sit on planes for several hours between concerts and then have to adjust to a completely new instrument. That often demands a lot of energy and flexibility from you. On the other hand, I love meeting new people, places, and instruments and dive into foreign cultures. That is what makes my life so exciting.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a concert organist, I specialize in performing on the organ in various concert settings. My work revolves around creating immersive and captivating musical experiences for audiences.

One of the aspects I am most proud of is my dedication to exploring a wide range of repertoire, from early Baroque to contemporary compositions. This allows me to offer diverse and engaging programs that cater to different musical tastes and preferences.

I strive to connect with the audience on an emotional level, using the organ’s vast tonal palette to create a unique and memorable experience. Additionally, I am committed to promoting the organ as a versatile and dynamic instrument, showcasing its capabilities through innovative programming and collaborations with other musicians.

Ultimately, my goal is to not only deliver technically proficient performances but also to transport listeners on a musical journey that leaves a lasting impression.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in the middle of the Alps in an idyllic village in Austria. Music has always been one of my interests, but also skiing, as we always have a lot of snow in the winter. I became the choir director of the local church choir at the age of 14, so I learned early on what it meant to lead a group and turn creative ideas into reality. Now, I live in LA and Graz, Austria, and commute between these two cities.
